    • MFP: Scan to email address

Just a curious thought - we have several MFP devices that can be set with scan to email. We are also in the move to O365, which I know I may have to set up a relay for.

But - the real question is should I have one 'email address' to scan from or 'department' scan from emails..

    • RE: What Microsoft OS is best for business?

I would wager to say that a mix is going to have to be way to go. Windows XP is expired - was a great system decently stable... Windows 7 Pro is going well for us but,.. there are some security issues. I've had people have issues with Windows 8 and 8.1. But partly due to a Touch screen on a Laptop... And that the GUI is much different the previous ones, so there is that learning curve.

My Win7Pro security issue is encryption. It's not native to this version.. so it's something else to invest in, and manage.

There are PROs to going Linux and Mac, especially with open source software. just depends on how much of a MS investment you need.

    • RE: Why Anecdotes Fail

I felt similarly regarding MS SBS 2003 - It was a 'huge risk' to have a single server that served so much - I made it worse on myself by (shooting my foot) at only 4GB of memory. But it ran,..daily,.. only one 'failure' which was a virus and I may have been able to resolve it without wiping the system. But I choose to as a precaution.

But that SBS box ran for nearly 6 straight years with very little day to day futzing. We did have downtime,.. but there isn't anything that I could do about the Windstream hub down the road being under 5 feet of water. We were running,.. just no internet.

Still like the SBS model - though in my new office it doesn't work since we have nearly 300 people.

    • MPLS vs VPN vs TermServ

We have several remote offices with 3-15 people each. Currently there is no domain authentication for them, and email is either OWA or POP (using webmail or Outlook). Future planning and trying to figure out which route is best for a single person to manage, which is best? Additional hurdle is that we are a Non Profit.

Over all - agency wide we have fewer than 300 employees, the central office has about 55-65 IPs used currently. Most remote sites are DSL (one site has redundant DSL line) basic service, but the carrier has told me we can go to 12MB (not completely believing that in Rural KY).

      Suggestions?

Could it be the VPN dying on sleep / hibernate?

That is a good option I would think. I've never like the sleep / hibernate as some programs just don't recover well from it - I've seen a time or two were memory use doubled on wake up.

Another thing could be how he is connected to the network. Is he wired or wireless? If he is wired - is it via the port replicator or direct to the laptop. Dell still ships systems that will use the E-Dock, and while I"m not sure if that is compatible with his system, it's a option.

@g.jacobse at its price and feature set it is really perfect for home use.

I already have a Ubiquiti AP already, and have 5 install at the office. Just need to get the router set.

This is a timely thread as I've been considering upgrading the router at the house also. I do have a EdgeRouter Lite for the office - which still needs to be deployed and configured.

    • Office 365: Mailbox question

      Good Morning -

I am in the process of moving our POP/IMAP email to Office 365 but I have a rather simple question on mailboxes.

There are several addresses that are 'group' related. Are these best created as a shared, group or distribution type mailbox?

Thanks for your time and advice.
