@jaredbusch I always do bridge (using virtio) so I have host to guest communication.

Easiest way for me to create a bridge is via Cockpit (see image)

Server 2008 w Hyper-V infrastructure: needs upgrades!!
Situation:
Initial date of creation was March 2009.
3 hosts running Win Server 2008 w Hyper-V.1x Dell 2950:
Ram: 16gb
VMs: 5 - **Server 2008 x4, Win XP x1- *includes one Domain Controller
1x Dell 2950:
Ram: 16gb
VMs: 4 - Server 2008 x2, Server 2003 x1, Win XP x11x Dell 2900:**
Ram: 16gb
VMs: 3 - Server 2008 x2, Server 2003 x1
** This server is failing hard drives at an alarming rateProposed software solution:
- Buy Server 2016 Standard license - use for new DC vm.
- Upgrade Directory Services level from 2008 to 2016.
- Buy backup software (see #3 below)
Proposed hardware solution:
- Buy 2 new servers.
- Choose hypervisor: 2016 Hyper-V or Fedora KVM
- Choose backup solution
Thoughts, feedback, ideas...all suggestions are welcome?

This was on a MD1000, very old.
MD1000...old school! I know those units. I've got 2 of them in storage gathering dust!
I have 2x LSI 620J. I might just connect it with LSI 9207E HBA

@scottalanmiller said in Small Restaurant Network Redesign:
There is a Windows Server somewhere in this mix providing Active Directory to 15 users.
Is this Windows Server here only for providing AD?
Is this hardware good enough to be used as a KVM host?
I assume the plan is to convert this box & run NC, UNMS etc as vm's. -
RE: Licenses for APs and Switches
3 year Enterprise license price on the MX400 is $16k, the Advance Security license is $32k (these are list prices).
As much as I love Meraki (and I do use it), the license pricing is beyond ridiculous...

RE: Manage KVM through Cockpit
The KVM management is not 100% & yes you still need to update with "dnf install -y cockpit-machines"

RE: Sync Dropbox & OneDrive
I ended up with this: https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/feature/cloud_sync
I synced a couple of folders on the NAS/OneDrive/Google Drive/Dropbox/B2.

RE: Fedora 28 Server - Linux 101 - How do you partition your drives
You could do something similar to this & use /data for storing vm's

@travisdh1 Can you dumb that down for me?
I'm looking for more step by step or a walk through video if possible. Maybe Linux 098 vs. 101...
Try this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olPWqd3gVY8 Around 2:05 is where you want to look for creating a custom partition layout.
In that video would I just make the / partition larger since I have a larger drive and keep the others the same? Isn't XFS preferred now?
XFS is my preference, yes. The root partition at 25GB is enough assuming you're only using KVM with a server base. The one big change you want to be aware of is assigning another LVM partition the rest of the drive space to the /var mount point. It's much easier to set that up at install time rather than change it later.
So in @FATeknollogee example would I just change /Data to /var ?
Yes you could.
Just use that "+" (in the bottom left) & you could add "/var" instead of "/data" -

That lack of feature alone makes me question if KVM is production ready and would remove it from my shortlist for 2018.
I really want to say something about this but I'll keep my mouth shut.
Why would you do that?
Aren't we all here to learn? -
RE: Testing oVirt...
Plan to start loading up some vm's (in the next few days)
Will also like to test some backup & restore products. -

Very good more pics and stuff please, did you face any hosts disconnections I faced that alot
No host disconnections at all.
The current version (4.2.5) is very easy to setup.
I will post some pics of an upcoming version, oVirt Node (4.3) based on Fedora 28. -
Remote Connect/Support Tools for Fedora, Windows, OS X
We had this discussion re support tools:
https://mangolassi.it/topic/17279/fedora-with-screenconnect/61This tool looks like it has potential.
It's self-hosted & supports Linux, Windows & Mac clients.
I've only done very limited testing on a Fedora 28 & Server 2019 client. -

@hobbit666 said in Testing oVirt...:
I've loosey been reading the posts on this but what is oVirt? Is it just a management thing for KVM or is it and KVM based hypervisor in it's self?
Think of it as the KVM equivalent of vmWare vSphere.

Web hosting: today's recommendation
Once upon a time, the community was big on ASO & then A2 Hosting....
Just like the progression from XS to KVM, CentOS to Fedora 2x...
Where are we with web hosting?

@fateknollogee Are you using this in production or lab?
Can't wait for 4.2.7!
In the next couple of weeks, I'm going to tear down the lab & do a 100% rebuild....all oVirt
