Better to replace the thing so soon as the current support agreement runs out.

Not sure I agree with even that - replace with UBNT now, toss a spare on the shelf, and have less worries, concerns going forward.. no waiting on the cisco repair crew.

I think you can afford 10 spares on the shelf not just one.

    • Do you think I.T admins are easy targets for obsessive compulsive disorder?

Well the title says most of it, I am abit youngster in the I.T admins lounge was usually 1st or 2nd tier help desk I.T.

Lately I feel like I have to check the network equipment and server more than one time, even if its something I know I did safely previously and it should run 99.99999% fine, but I have to check it and then check it again after some time and maybe on weekends.

Is this normal for you guys or I take it too seriously and cause it is my first I.T admin/supervisor job.

I hope this effect goes away eventually, or is that what makes a good I.T admin ???

oney in bitcoin every week. I have a friend who went full in retirement and all, and preaches the gospel all the time. I'm not that crazy, but I first bought in at $268 a BTC, and as of right now we are at.... $1,178 and down almost $100 from last week, so I'm having fun. It is a way for me to play with some spending money on the side and learn and try the technology behind it.

I dont think its Hyped, its very interesting approach.

All the big players are betting on it, albeit small stakes but still, IBM, DELL, INTEL just to name a few, they have some sort of consortium for it, um imagine where we dont neet banks and you can to transactions and validate them on your machine.

It never really hits until you install Wallet and have to download 30 GB worth of data to begin (you can use a cloud wallet, but thats the new fancy way of doing it), afterwards you will get addresses and anybody can sent money to you in an encrypted manner.

Its very interesting stuff indeed, but IMO any opensource tech that branches out rapidly and turns to
many derivatives that is not really the best strategy to do any significant change.

      @scale

This reminds my on why Romania has very fast internet, cause it started developing it nearly from scratch starting from the early 2000, so they build good infrastructure and they didn't have to migrate from old crap.

Pretty much same thing goes for UAE, but replace that with Virtualization and how free and availability it has become in the past years.

    • So SAM has his SAM SD but i have my own EMAD USB

Guys I can stress how much I am loving this new concept, forget about Thumb USB flash drive premade.

      Create custom one.

Find Samsung EVO PLUS U3 SD card
Pair it with USB CARD Reader that has certified chipset + optionally lanyyard + optionally SD card cover like:

      Link1

      Link2

      Link3

Blazing fast everything see for your self in the video below and great Samsung performance + even if the card USB connectors fails you can fix it + you can find USB to C card reader if you want + usually cheaper + you can
install VeraCrypt and carry it around and performance will be also great.

      https://drive.google.com/open?id=1xoTsAnFbYkuL-LSbKPjHBRl3ZNT7OdIR

Competitors even from Samsung does not have the same performance, more like half of it only.

I have the Orico one in the video.

For backups this is god send.

I know this might be not original idea like the concept of black nail polish, everyone think they are original with it, but again I dont see alot of people doing it, and it is hella great.

    • RE: How Do Such Big Gaps Get Missed in IT Education

I reckon this happens in College and Universites, they simply skip the basics and jumn straight to teaching RDBMS and how to develop web app with it via MySQL or Oracle or MsSQL and thats it, it skimps alot of detail on how they are supposed to stay up and operational, they simply wants you to teach you something that makes you get money fast, and the rest is somebody else problem.

Also in my Egyptian university, Oracle like pays them money or sponsor them, thus we get taught alot about Oracle 10g Database Express edition, however like I said no one sponsors the basics of how to setup everything properly cause perhaps its hard to make money from that as soon as you leave College, cause they assume everything will be ready for you. btw I majored in M.I.S but i rarely do any SQL work, currently More like an I.T Generalist.

@scottalanmiller said in Is Most IT Really Corrupt?:

ir own businesses, some are managing hotels... but by and large, does raising the pay change the pool of talent? We are not talking about an individual business, but the entire field.

Well for starts having I.T helper can make documentation is easier and after I worked on project with ThoughtWorks, they pair up as driver technique, and 2 sit on one machine, 1 develops and the other helps to understand and document.

Documentation fights corruption cause it removes you out of the dark. and if I left the company I cant leave them hostage cause they have the docs which will allow another person to follow and understand.

Maybe I am not being subjective, but the thing what I am basically saying is the current model in SMB to hire 1 I.T person to deal with:

      User issues and I.T Support
Handling of servers in the best way
      And Printers of course
And add more responsibilities like developing new tools and solutions to help the org (XMPP Chat/NextCloud/osTicket/SaltStack/Intranet site/...etc)

Is not the best way to go if they genuinely care about I.T continuous improvement.

      AND I NEED RAISE PEOPLE

    • Understanding Kaby Lake OS support

      Hi,

So the recent news of AMD supporting Windows 7 with drivers, got me thinking a bit.

I am planning on an i7-7700 (non K) setup using this motherboard:

      Z270 SLI PLUS
      https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-SLI-PLUS.html#down-driver

However it does start that have drivers for Windows 7

I dont understand, can somebody shed more lights into this, cause I heard Skylake only will work with Windows 10.

      Good morning @Emad-R

Hey, morning to you 2. Surprised that it is morning in some place else, usually when it is morning here it is midnight in the US and canada.

It is 11 AM right now, and working on Nginx TLS certificate based Authentication

It is 3AM where I am. But this place is hopping because it is a Friday night and people are either doing projects or the Sodium team is releasing. Now that Friday night is Sodium's big night of the week, it makes for a predictably busy evening with them.

      Busy as well:

    • RE: Best tool to manage Centos KVM ? + Guide

Thanks for the Web virt suggestions, I gave that try and didnt like really... but that got me thinking to Cloudmin even thought its not free.

But it seems I am stuck with Virt-Manager for some time, Btw I came closer to fixing the weird typos when I use virt-viewer In windows, apparently I have to put my mouse on the toolbar insert keys to type keyboard stuff, but even when I do this, the keyboard input i type is not the same as displayed for example if I pressed

YES on keyboard it will display something else, however if I pressed multiple times it will display YES eventually ... dont ask me why this is happening... I played with locale and keymap and all the keyboard options, this is the max for me.

KVM + Virt-Manager is good for hosted enviroment that only 1 person will interact with. Unlike ESXi standalone host, it has support for VMRC which is 40 MB download executable that allows any Mac OS X/Windows/Linux to connect to VM from command line.
