@DustinB3403 I just virtualized our servers but not our desktops. I have been asking to upgrade our phones, but to have the money to do so I need to get some more customers. Great advice though. Thank you.

What about your phone system do you want to upgrade? The number of lines you have? the switch? the phones themselves?

VOIP and SIP only applies if you're talking about upgrading the lines and assumes the current system supports SIP.
If he's talking about the phones/system, that won't be free (for the phones).

Hopefully his phone setup is less complicated than mine.

Yeah, which isn't very helpful for the issue I've seen (others on the internet have commented on it as well).

So you're thinking one of the dependencies is the issue?

Seems like if XS is producing 20% faster results than ESXi that having it in a cluster would be similar. The storage does not change how the hypervisor works.

      Even if you could:

Get it to run in Outlook and Get it past the other company's filters and Not get your company blocked from sending them emails....

      Then you would still face...

OWA won't run VBScript Most Outlook will not run VBScript No non-MS system will run VBScript

and brings us right back to

That is easy. The answer is you cannot and it was a colossal waste of money on your company's part to even try.

Does this mean the name Xen is finally dead? can we stop worrying about it? Xen = XenServer and XenServer = Xen?

Nope, nothing of the sort. XenServer and Xen remain identical to what they have always been year after year. XenServer is a Xen distribution. That is never going to change. Xen is the hypervisor, XenServer is the distro.

Just like CentOS and Linux will always remain separate things. CentOS is an OS built on Linux, Linux is the kernel.

@scottalanmiller Your stance on IT job titles seems at variance with your stance on the English language. It seems that you want a level of flexibility in language that you're unwilling to extend to titles. My experience in SMB, and annecdotally, is that a SysAdmin is what most SMBs call your IT Generalist. The SMB job market has designated a skill set and assigned it a title. Whether it is technically accurate, or matches the enterprise is not really germane to an individual's ability to get hired in the SMB, or get paid in a manner commensurate with skills and experience. If I put down IT Generalist as my title/position sought I will get slated for helpdesk positions. The "correctness" of the title is no longer relevant to the discussion. You are fighting against the same things that I am with the language overall, and we're both losing.

As others have mentioned (thanks guys!), our Untirends Free only protects VMware, Hyper-V, & Windows clients, however our paid editions start at $299, which is a one time cost, and includes the 1st year of support. After the initial year, the only costs that you'll have going forward will be for support, which includes tech support & all software updates. This post about our updated XenServer protection went up on our blog yesterday. Please let me know what questions you may have.

In the interest of reliability and compatibility, we opted to only support enterprise level SSDs. We actually only recently supported non-Dell drives because of those same reasons. We started talking with Edge and found a partner who would co-developer firmware to limit the risk to our customers. If Dell makes a firmware change, we didn't want our customers to experience any issues with their drives.

That what made me reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally nervous about non-DELL drives.

Not that anything would happen, but the last thing you need is some change form DELL and then your drives stop working, or booting.

Total BS that they do that, but whatever. It's their company and there are other options.

I bet the primary case is buildings burning down and people making off with the server from the ashes 😉

I've heard of people having fires, not heard of anyone having a stolen server in the real world. Even with SMBs rarely doing anything to protect against it.
