    • RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

It was just a very short sit down, I asked for a minute or two of his time, and told him I've been working on a proposal to this question at hand.

And that the proposal I have is built to be far more reliant than the existing proposal, most specifically because of the cost and huge failing point of a single SAN.

The real conversation will likely begin next week.

@wirestyle22 I've applied for Jobs that say "certs required blah blah blah" but the certs don't make up for experience.

The certs are a sign you're willing to learn, not that you're an expert.

NAUBackup is a great script for Xen. GitHub Link

Anyways just wget into /patcher and it can be run right from there with just some small adjustments to the file paths.

When I started using it I even made some recommendations to the comments to clear up what was being said. If you have questions don't hesitate to ask.

      Good.

Lenovo's reputation is in the dumps, Microsoft should be happy that they aren't selling through Lenovo.

For anyone else looking for some simple reading, I've drafted the different articles into a 16 page PDF.

It can be found here, it's rather simple to review and formatting was done for simplicity.

    • RE: How do you get your boss to notice your work?

I don't mind going into my manager and telling him what I've been doing, but at the same time, my manager should take it upon himself to check in and understand what I'm doing and why.

This is the patching scripts we use in our Environment (work and personal) https://github.com/dalgibbard/citrix_xenserver_patcher

Love this platform, just so many amazing items.

Yeah I read that the same way @Kelly .

That's like being paranoid about catching some tropical rain forest virus when you live in the tundra, so you just stay home all day and night.

Exactly... for another part time employee we are giving her a credit towards her monthly cell phone bill..

With 99% of everyone else, I have to manage 70 people and their crap..

Sorry but if I get grumpy at you for losing your 3rd phone in a month, and even help you get Find my iPhone setup, and you still lose it, the issue is going to HR.

@DustinB3403 See ive alway found that i can read something, then tinker with it and do the hands on side of working. And as of right now, i have no idea what part of It I want to do..

It sounds like you need an internship, something that you can learn a little about everything to the point that you are able to decide what you want to focus on.

    • RE: How come my users never understand the simple things..

Soft skills are absolutely something that will be learned from personal experience. It shouldn't be required that an adult, who pays taxes, cooks food, drives, has kdis etc needs to have their hand held for simple tasks like connecting power.

That is a pretty cool article, it would've been great if they provided some proof with the article.

Their lab environment, the variants tested etc, but otherwise totally awesome.

@DustinB3403 thats what i was thinking and have been told before too. Question is, where do i start an internship? What steps do i take on the path of finding my nichè in it? Where did you start?

I (foolishly) went to college, and fumbled around learning things (while paying to be there) rather than being paid to be there and learn.

If I met the criteria I'd be applying for the internship that @Minion-Queen is offering.

College, for me at least wasn't so worthwhile, as I was learning things I was already doing (at my day job, desktop support /jun. sys admin for a car dealership).

At least with an internship, you are being given projects for educational purposes (that you aren't paying to learn). Which real world learning is almost always better than classroom based learning. At least when it comes to "IT".

    • RE: LaCie Drive Question, Issue, Concern

Well my concern is that it could be rebuilding the RAID and that the Red LED is just dead. But I've never had an LED go, on anything ever..

So my concern is that if we drop it, and reconnect it then we'll end up having to try recovering from backup.

Edit: Boss just told me this drive isn't backed up..... (because RAID is it's own backup... isn't it)

With any iDevice with iOS 7 or greater doing a factory reset requires you to sign back into the iCloud account used after a factory reset.

      It's an anti-theft measure.

    • IT Boss who over assumes, and promises everything, yet delivers less than half

So our backup system is having some issues right now, particularly its full as shit, had a power failure that cause the incremental to fail.

MSP Emails at 5PM last Friday saying "Oh hey this failed". Boss replies "can you call me" (rather than calling our MSP. . . granted he had to get ready for a work trip out of the country but what ever)

Doesn't receive a call back immediately. Text me yesterday and says take one of our Backup drives (standalone single USB LaCie drive, which this is crap because than we'd be eating last weeks backups) and connect it directly to our server oh and "It has to be 4TB".

Well bad new for you boss these and every other external drive we have on site caps out at 2TB, do you want me to run to best buy and pick one up just to cover us. (Granted not what the hardware is built for but new is better than nothing so we can build a new incremental)

Long story short, I'm emailing the MSP and my Boss this morning to get more information on what needs to be done, and haven't heard back, that was about 30 minutes ago.

      Great times, just great....

DST just doesn't make much sense to me. We have the ability to light entire stadiums at night as if it were day, so why are we still bothering with this practice?
