That's not many kids for the amount of noise happening out there. I think they might be done now.

I know it is extremely early in the process, does anyone have a proposed date(s) for said event?
late May, June, early July are most doable for us. Somebody should check out dates of major religious holidays too, so we don't conflict.

@scottalanmiller Hello IT Staff Member!! Do you find yourself working alone on the weekends? Are you the only member of your department? Would you like to attend a conference to learn junk about stuff and sympathize / complain and relate to other people as over worked as you? MangoCon 2016 - where "if it plugs in or takes batteries makes it your responsibility" is something we all can relate to.
This made me snort.

I'd love to run a small import/export business, even just for fun (as long as it isn't losing money.) Let me know what products people want from Central America. Maybe we can set something up

Cigars and premium cigarettes, coffee, national food stuffs.
Country packs - a taste of the land and people
There's a subscription service that does this,, but I think it's a mix of things from different countries every month. I can't recall what it's called though.

RE: MangoCon 2016 NYSposted in MangoCon
There's such a big difference between planning for 50 and 250, that I'm not sure it's reasonable to do for our first time trying this. It seems like it might be a better idea to pick a maximum number of people for the first conference (on the lower side like 100 max) and limit attendance to that number. The choice of venues is drastically different for 100 vs. 250 people.

RE: Swagposted in MangoCon
Swag is so overdone. I like clever and unique items, such as the Hitchhiker's Guide themed towels that Scale gave out. I've become very picky about tshirts, and will only accept the super soft ones. I really covet the new Aetherstore shirt because it is a different color as well as being super soft. I do not like the heavy, stiff tshirts at all, and I don't wear them, so I don't even take them home anymore. Pens are overdone, but at least useful, as are notebooks. The multi-device charging cables win the most useful swag award this year. I actually like Scott's idea about small combined swag giftboxes shipped home (for those traveling by air).

Is it possible to get Hola VPN to work on a Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV?posted in IT Discussion
Now that we travel full time, we've run into challenges with being able to use Netflix and Amazon Instant Video that an Hola subscription resolves on our laptops and iPads, but it would be handy if it also worked on a Google Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV Stick. Does anyone know if there's a way to get it to work?

This is a mark of IT maturity. You can't always convince a client to follow your recommendations, and so the "right" way is sometimes just doing what the client wants.

@scottalanmiller So does UEB do both host and agent backups?
Yes, that is one of their claims to fame. They can directly backup nearly any OS (definitely any production OS) as well as hypervisors. So you can do whichever one makes the most sense for the particular workload. Mix and match as needed. You can do both for the same workload too, but rarely would you want to do that.
Oh neat, so if you change your mind, or find that your needs have changed, UEB is flexible enough that you can just change the type without a lot of effort?

Cool, what does the shirt say? Unitrends always has some of the best swag shirts.

@coliver Okay, that's what I was thinking it probably meant, but I'm not always up on the lingo. Like every time @scottalanmiller says "ack" to me I think he's complaining, but he's actually using it as "acknowledge".

Wow, this is very cool. I have a question, though. I understood everything else in the description, but what's a socket?

RE: Cost effective European Areas/Citiesposted in Water Closet
@IRJ April - May is a great time to visit Europe. It's the shoulder season, so it's neither as crowded or as hot as the summer season. In fact, any place in northern Europe will be downright cold then, while southern Europe will be pleasantly warm to possibly hot.

RE: Cost effective European Areas/Citiesposted in Water Closet
@Carnival-Boy I cannot imagine spending a week in Venice. It was wall to wall tourists to the point where you couldn't even walk down the street without stopping every few minutes. It was decaying and dirty, with tons of abandoned and crumbling buildings, and it didn't smell very pleasant. There were hustlers and panhandlers everywhere, because they go where the tourists are, and Venice was one of the only places we went (along with Brussels) where I was super glad I was wearing a money belt. Also "cheap restaurants where the food is plain but perfectly edible" doesn't sound like a very good recommendation. There is so much amazing food in Europe, why settle for "edible"?
Lots of people love Venice. I have no idea why, but different strokes for different folks. I would classify it as the most overrated place we've visited in Europe. -
RE: Cost effective European Areas/Citiesposted in Water Closet
Boppard, Germany on the Rhine is amazing, and I really liked Munich, but Germany is more expensive than southern Europe. What time of year are you considering? Time of year absolutely makes a difference in recommendations.

RE: Cost effective European Areas/Citiesposted in Water Closet
We were not fans of Venice. It's overrated and dirty. If you really want to go, definitely check out Rick Steves' suggestions for getting the most out of Venice.

RE: Cost effective European Areas/Citiesposted in Water Closet
Stick to southern Europe, as it is much cheaper than northern Europe. Check out airbnb.com for some great deals on nice places to stay. We have had excellent luck with airbnb in Spain. If you want to do more of a whirlwind tour as a "once-in-a-lifetime" type trip, then check out ricksteves.com and look at his guidebooks for all-Europe "grand tour" itinerary suggestions and for single country itineraries. If you want to be more laid back, pick a city like Sevilla, Granada or even Barcelona and see everything there is to see in that place, and take day trips. doyouspain.com has great deals on rental cars, and there are lots of train options too.

RE: Zoom in on DOS Apps in Windows 10posted in IT Discussion
I get it to run by using the compatibility troubleshooter and then I was able to get into the options screen to choose full screen, but it triggers the Start menu and crashes when you try to click out of it. Every once in a while I manage to esc out of the Start menu and I can play it that way. It's definitely buggy on Win 10.
