I ended up finding the "real" location of the programs and made icons from them and now the blue arrows are gone.

I was looking in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office when I should have been looking in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

There are no shortcuts on that folder just the Executable and same for the other office versions. You just need to recreate them.

Yeah I got it fixed already..

@dave247 Well obviously, because you missed something. Otherwise it would have the same result with the wizard as you did manually.

Not having a copy of your config vs a copy of the wizard config, who knows what it was.

Yeah I'm sure I missed something, but the wizard really only asks for admin name, password, then the switch ip information, then it boots. All these things you can also set manually, which I did. I set them exactly the same as in the wizard. I checked everything numerous times and found no discrepancies. Beats me.

Would VLAN 2 fail if switchport general allowed vlan add 2 wasn't there? IE non tagged traffic would simply fail?

No, it will just be VLAN2 sending untagged on that port.

Can we get a photo of the checklist with ur info scratched out?

That way we have what you have to go off of, and no more assumptions need to be made.

We need the complete context to give accurate recommendations.

I will have to get it from my boss. My boss only verbally told me about this and then sent me a snippet of the suggested solution which I transcribed and posted here.
      0_1513983858592_23108526-83c5-4a26-8608-ae5b8e840eea-image.png

      I see.

But we can't really use that.

We need to see the actual requirement, and for all we know that is just one of many possible recommendations for complying with some unknown requirements.

Right. I just provided that because that's what my boss provided me as it related to the auditors in that it is one of the solutions they provide on the matter -- a solution which I had completely un-done when I had enough of dealing with static IPs and rolled out DHCP again.

Righyt, and eventually whoever is upgrading the T1 to the 2.5Mbps service will come in with a Cisco router that has a fiber card and ethernet card in it. and that will be the handoff.

At least you get 5 VMs, but the 5Nines gives you 6..

I'll bring it back around and say that now that I've gotten past the couple of annoying obstacles with Hyper-V and remote management, Hyper-V is freaking awesome. It seems lightning fast.

The annoying thing for me is the versioning needed to manage hyper-v. Example: For Hyper-V 2016 you need a windows 10 machine to manage it.

      No you don't.

You can pay for stuff to manage it, but I mean it doesn't automatically allow that

      Windows 7+ with RSAT.

I just did that at my last job and it didn't allow it

      I used Hyper-V 2016 with Win7 RSAT before I loaded Win10.

Hm. I should try it again I guess at home

You may have an existing settings file (like a .vmx) which you can convert into ovf format using VMware's tool 'ovftool':http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/vsphere/automationtools/ovf
There's quite a lot of options, which are detailed here in the user guide:http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/ovf/ovf20/ovftool_201_userguide.pdf

If thats not a viable option, You can download the OVF Import/Export tool from the Microsoft Download Center. The OVF Import/Export tool is distributed as a Windows Installer package. You must install the tool on an existing VMM management server that has the VMM console installed.

Thanks. And this isn't for testing. I actually want to use this server for some production servers.

Sorry, didn't know. I mistakenly assumed testing and lab because of the time frame.

But you can't go wrong with doing it that way.

If you have no need for an extra NIC you could do a 3-NIC team. If you are fine with no management NIC, do a 4-port team and share it with your management OS if for some reason you need that many NICs in a team. Though you probably don't.

Yeah well it is for some low-risk servers, so, kinda almost testing, but not really, if that makes sense. lol

Well, I looked at prices on ebay (which I know is not the best place to do a comparison) but people tend to price things relative to how expensive they were or currently are worth.

I don't know if that's true. Pricing on eBay are often insane. People asking $1,000 for a device worth $20 just because they hope that someone is confused.

hahahaha you're so right. I guess really, it was just a comparison starting point. Probably not a good idea, but it's the only way I could quickly get a $ figure.

Yeah, I don't know who has MSRP on those.

We order custom cables from Provisions Modular hardware. Their website is horrible but if you call them and set up an account they will do custom length patch cables or really any other cable you may need. Their website only lists by the foot but we've ordered custom 12.5ft cables for some of our racks without issues.

yeah their website need's some work...

I ended up just saying eff it and ordered from C2G

I’m confused on the Hyper-v admin you made. Was it local on Hyper-v? If yes then how could any other computer log into itself as that user?

I chose option 3 from the sconfig menu ("add local administrator") and then for that I chose a domain user. Then, I was attempting to connect to my Hyper-V server through the Windows 10 Hyper-V Manager as that user.

I mostly get my products from NewEgg and CDW. My current CDW rep is pretty good. The best thing about my rep is he admits software licensing is crazy and talks with his team to find me the right licenses every time.

YMMV but I give a +1 lately to CDW. I have been to a couple local events and they admit they will not be the lowest price but are trying to offer better services and side benefits.

After reading many SW/blog posts by SAM, I do watch out for the VAR related issues.

Edit: - As for finding the right MS software licenses on CDW, don't waste your time. If you don't find the correct MS Part-# just ask your rep to find out. As you found out CDW will list every single license from all types of MS contracts (Government, Open Value, Open License, 0-5 users, 100+ users, 500+ users). It is not worth the pain. It is better if you ask your rep, "Can you find me a W2016 Standard License with 16 Cores?" or "Can you find me 20 2016 RDS User CAL's under my Open Value license?"
