The Surface Pro series I think was hoped to be by it's creators to be an out of the gate truly hybrid device - both consumption and creation, hence the need for a keyboard from day one.

I find that hard to accept based on the physical format of the device. It is really suitable only for content consumption. It's lack of usable form factor and keyboard put it squarely in line with the iPad.

So is the laptop the only conceivable form factor that is portable and made for creation?

I don't think touch input will ever beat a keyboard as much as some people want it too. Touch is great for some things. But not typing unless its some causal light typing.

It's totally true. Keyboards have endured for over a century for a reason - they work and they work great.

No, don't think so... I think it's dynamic DNS, unless it changed.

You are correct. You'd want something more than a cache then.

      Where did this come from?

From the Microsoft demo of Windows 10 at Spiceworld London. They specifically said

"It will be a subscription based model after the first year, security updates will be completely free BUT if you want feature updates, you need to have a subscription"

Ah okay, that's the first that I have heard them say that anywhere.

Same. I know there where paid feature updates as windows will essentially be windows 10 for now on. and feature changes will replace upgrades but, last I hard you could pay for them as a on time thing. businesses with VLKs will of course be required to pay with SA.

Where did you see that coming from Microsoft? Sure there are tons of articles that THINK that's what's going to happen, but there are no announcements to that end that I know of.

For months my boss has been having a weird issue where certain parts of her screen would pull in ghost images of the windows behind the primary window. The only way to get it to go away was to close all of the windows and relaunch.

Well today she noticed just before it happened that she got the up/down arrow that one gets when clicking the scroll wheel (though she never understood why she was getting it).
      one.jpg

Just after seeing that icon and then scrolling (which was her goal, scroll through an Excel spreadsheet) her screen went crazy.

She decided to try cntrl + Z (undo) and the problem went away. Clearly something weird is going on when she click scrolls.

I asked her if she always 'clicks' while scrolling and she said yes. I asked her to stop clicking and instead be feather light on the scroll wheel and see if the problem goes away.

This is the second time a person has had an issue in the last 2 years with click scrolling - I guess it's just not obvious enough that clicking is it's own thing, and scrolling is a separate action.

      Time for some training.

@Dashrender Well that is to be expected...always some sort of weird Outlook stuff like that. I've had this issue in the past, good to know about the single click vs double click for this issue. Hopefully Outlook 2016 will address this, but not holding my breath!

Have you tried this? No experience firsthand with faxing with FreePBX. Usually I'd recommend Elastix for that. Has built in packages to accommodate faxing. Otherwise, try this:

yum -y install spanDSP libtiff libtiff-devel

Well POTS just uses address on file most of the time. The bigger problem is when people don't know how to setup these properly using multiple buildings and it happens a lot. The PD was always having to deal this it when I was working for the Town. They get a call and respond to the business only to find out it was actually at their second building or something.

Yeah, they didn't in my house. I lived in Greece and the line in my house was registered as Rochester or Webster. Frontier had terminated a Xerox PBX line to my house instead of my personal phone line. So if I called 911, they thought that the call was coming from a Xerox facility a few cities away.

The thing that many people neglect is that the first amendment, and by extension, freedom of assembly/association, is aimed at restricting the powers of government, not delineating the freedoms of people. From a legal standpoint it doesn't matter if an implementation of freedom of association is discriminatory. Under the first amendment (assuming it is actually applied), there is nothing that the government can do. Society could ostracize you, but there should be no laws "abridging...the right of the people peaceably to assemble".

Thank you! I agree with this completely.

Sure, Amazon, etc might have very low latency - but they don't control your endpoint, and that is probably just as important if not more so!

Yes, your endpoint is a big deal. But Amazon has very low latency to nearly any carrier. They peer with everyone. So in a way, they almost do. Go ping Amazon and see what your latency is.

You've made your point @scottalanmiller, and talked me off the ledge (mostly).

Am I worried about my ISP, no more than I have been since the confirmation of Prism. Though considering problems like the ones recently found in the WiFi used by hotels, etc that allow attackers to completely take over those devices, using security/encryption everyone should just be the norm... not having to worry about setting up my own VPN termination point, or buying someone else's would be pretty nice.

The Atom is pretty impressive for what it is. But I agree, going from a new i7 to an Atom is quite a drop.

I've got the Surface Pro 3 Core i7 and when needed, I go down to my Dell Venue 8 Pro...I can for sure tell a difference but it is still quite workable...
