Updating machines to 1903. Boring.

RE: Apple locking down iPhone batteries
I'm fine with this. Everyone gets screens and batteries replaced from questionable repair shops and the phones never work the same again.

RE: Windows 7 Cannot Update
@Fredtx This has usually worked for me in the past.

RE: Disable USB Ports
Not disabling the ports completely - Just making them not accept storage devices. I would assume other peripherals and accessories would work as intended.

RE: Disable USB Ports
@notverypunny It is on a domain and I'm leaning towards GPO. Never hurts to get input from others though.

Disable USB Ports
What is the go-to tool for disabling USB storage access on Win 10 machines? Been wanting to do this for a while but it keeps getting put off. Is Group Policy the best method? I know it can be done there but I am sure there are tools as well.

RE: ProtonDB: Look Up Windows Game Testing on Linux from Valve's Proton
I went to MicroCenter tonight and was looking at laptops. I had a salesperson ask what I was looking for. I got a strange look when I said I wanted W10 Home cause it would get wiped anyway. I don't think she thought I was serious.

RE: ProtonDB: Look Up Windows Game Testing on Linux from Valve's Proton
@Dashrender I haven't bought anything with a "home" license in a very long time. You are right. I need to start looking again. My current laptop is almost 6 years old.

RE: ProtonDB: Look Up Windows Game Testing on Linux from Valve's Proton
@scottalanmiller Makes sense. I don't want dual boot. I just want to get an affordable NEW laptop with a NEW battery and throw Fedora WS on it. Running KVM may be nice to have a Win10 VM but not a necessity.

RE: ProtonDB: Look Up Windows Game Testing on Linux from Valve's Proton
I wish a person could buy a new laptop with no OS and without the added cost of a Windows license. I'm leery of buying used. Basically a plain HP or Dell for general use. Don't need the overpriced System76 stuff either.

RE: PoE powered lighting
Only 1 of the Ubiquiti models gets power from PoE. The other 2 models get commercial power to the first panel and then daisy-chain from there.

RE: Using Skype For Business For Conference Calls
@bnrstnr Exactly. That was the first one I thought of too.

RE: Copper Cabling - CompTIA Network+ N10-007 Prof. Messer
@Dashrender My opinion is that the contractors charge more for for shielded cable drops therefore the architect makes more money. Yes, they are in the same cable trays and same j-hooks. They don't require shielded patch cords though. It all comes down to money.

RE: Copper Cabling - CompTIA Network+ N10-007 Prof. Messer
@Dashrender No. I'm in Texas. I've had multiple different architectural firms require this in new schools and other commercial buildings. Its never on the normal data drops or for cameras, etc. Only on AP locations.

RE: Copper Cabling - CompTIA Network+ N10-007 Prof. Messer
I'm seeing a lot of shielded cable used in AP installations in new construction. The architect/engineers are requiring it and calling for 2 cables per AP. I don't feel its necessary but they won't allow any deviations from their plans.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@black3dynamite some do and others add a weird file extension behind the normal one. A .jpg might have .jpg.V12524352 or something similar. I've never had that happen to me and I've been using it since the Owncloud days.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@dafyre I thought so but that may be the issue. Its happening to a friend so I'll have to find out.
-
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@dafyre Yes, and it is adding extra characters to the filenames. Strange for sure.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Is there a way to force the nextcloud sync client to overwrite a file?
Example: You have a file named IMG001.jpg and it has synced. You replace that with a new file with the same name. It seems that it will create a copy instead of overwriting. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Updated 2 more desktops from F29 to F30 and building another F30 KVM host.
