    • CloudatCost Q&A session

      Hey Everybody!

Over the past few weeks I'm sure you have all heard a lot about cloudatcost.

MangoLassi has been super awesome and has welcomed CloudatCost into the forum with open arms . And because of this, we want to show our appreciation back to you and listen to what you guys have to say, questions you may have for us, or even just tell us how awesome we are, or crazy we are for having such low prices. (I have actually had a few messages from people in ML asking how we are able to offer such low costs).

I am looking to gauge interest in doing something like this. I believe in transparency, and I want cloudatcost to be the GO TO cloud server provider because of all the awesome things we do and how well we work with our end users.

      The Plan:
I am looking to set up a conference call (I will provide a toll free number so it costs you $0) for anybody to join. During this call, we will have the rpesident of CaC on the line, senior members of our tech team, and members of our marketing team.

Is this something ML users would like us to organize? it would be exclusive for ML users only!

To show your interest, upvote this post. If we have enough interest, we will do this!

    • RE: Cloudatcost currently offline

      Hey Everybody!
Late night update for you all. It's almost 9pm and we are all scrambling to make sure everything gets resolved ASAP.

Rogers is telling us that we should be up and running by midnight EST tonight.

As you can all understand, this was a pretty heavy hit for us today and any time something like this happens, its always unfortunate. No company is too big or too small to avoid these failures, and seeing Rogers experience massive network issues is a prime example of that.

For me personally, this could not have come at a worse time. I really enjoy interacting with each and every one of you, reading your posts about cloudatcost, seeing comments about how you are planning on using your servers, then all of a sudden... BOOM!

Regardless, I am still here to answer any questions you may have and I will make sure that once the dust has settled on this, we do something awesome for ML users.

Comparing Cloudatcost to many of the names you knew before you heard of us, we are small... but we are determined, and we WILL learn from this, and we WILL find a way to make it so that next time this happens, we are able to get everybody back up sooner and quicker than today.

      @JaredBusch
      Hi Jared,
This is true, there are many comments online talking about cloudatcost. When we launched the product in 2013, we weren't expecting the growth that we had. In short, our demaind increased our supply, causing quite the load on our servers. Having your business grow at rapid speeds is every businesses dream, however, for us it resulted in a lot of growing pains.

Last year we released a video talking about this exact issue.
check out the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INVaNT1R_jE

We are still growing and are constantly upgrading our hardware and adding to our support.

If I can help in any way, please let me know.

      Thanks,

      Hey Guys!
Awesome to hear you guys talking about Minecraft Servers. This is happening at the perfect time as CloudAtCost is refining its minecraft packages right now and are only a couple of weeks away from launch.

How about this, instead of having somebody buy a minecraft server for MangoLassi, CloudAtCost will sponsor it for free!

    • RE: Cloud at Cost - Did I make a mistake?

      Hey everybody!

      Aman from cloudatcost here.

was just checking the threads before calling it a night and came across this thread and really wanted to comment before getting some sleep.

There are a few things in this thread which are actually really viable questions... How does cloudatcost plan to support their servers? How do we pay for our bandwitdh? who's paying for all of the power of the datacenter? Will they be around next year?

These are all awesome questions and I'm really glad that they are being asked. There is a rational fear of trying something new, something different, something you havent heard of... and that's us... cloudatcost. I for one am really big on transparency and I believe that all of your questions should be answered, and I will do my best to answer them all right now:

First of all, let's start with who we are, how we were founded, and where are we going.

Cloudatcost is a brand of Fibernetics, a voice and data telecommunication provider in Canada. (Cambridge, Ontario... if you're local, come by and check us out for yourselves).
More information on Fibernetics is found here: www.fibernetics.ca

Fibernetics works in 4 major areas: Residential products (www.worldline.ca), business services (business.fibernetics.ca), wholesale, and finally the "Seedling Initiative" - a venture start up division of Fibernetics. http://www.fibernetics.ca/about-us/fibernetics-ventures/

as a side note... Fibernetics recently invested $2.1 million in a seedling called Plasticity Labs - a company thats focused around happiness in the workforce

So as you can see, our backbone is very robust. We have over 300,000 users alone on our residential products..

So the answer to how we can supply bandwitdh so cheap? Fiberneticss is a voice and data telecommunication company, these resources are shared across our brand, including cloudatcost.

How do we keep our operating costs so low?

The datacenter which you see in the youtube video I posted in another thread (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INVaNT1R_jE) is of our actual datacenter, not a staged location. The datacenter is powered using solar! we have solar panels over the entire roof - We capture so much sun that our hydro costs are virtually $0 - so lets pass the savings on.

Fibernetics is about being very disruptive in the tech industry, whether it be unlimited internet for residential users, robust business phone systems, or cloud servers - we do things differently, and we're awesome at it. Unfortunately, people think it's too good to be true.... what if they shut down shop and leave? - If I could do something to reassure you that we're not going anywhere, let me know what it is... Fibernetics is 10 years strong and growing at a pace like never before. cloudatcost is doing very very very well, our pricing model is different.... too good to be true... but it is true.

If you have any questions for me, let me know....

      @JaredBusch

      Hey guys,
just got confirmation from the team:

If you are currently on one time payment, your hardware upgrade will not affect that. if you selected one time / monthly, your billing option remains the same.

The harware upgrade is a one time charge.

      Hey everybody,

In the past 24 hours we have experienced multiple fiber splices which have caused a lot of downtime at our data center.

As many of you have mentioned, we are not completely offline and there are servers still online during this outage.

The most recent update I received from Rogers outlines that techs have been dispatched and that the issue has been escalated to management at Rogers.

The crew is currently trying to resolve the issue but Rogers has not provided an ETR.

I will do my best to keep everybody posted on a regular basis.

    • RE: Why does CloudatCost charge in US currency for a Candian Company?

      Hey Guys!

Thanks for all your patience. I have been really busy and unfortunately have not had the time to log in to MangoLassi in a little while. As you all know, I love being a part of this community and now that things have settled down a little bit for me, I will be back in here actively answering any questions you may have.

The question about the currency is a great one and one that we get asked many times. There are a few factors which impacted our decision:

      1. The US Dollar is seen as an international currency (more so than the Canadian Dollar). This means that as people are looking for our product around the world, It is easy for them to convert. Our Datacenter is in Canada, but we have a lot of customers from other countries. US is our major market, and majority of our sales come from the US market.

      2. Easier to compare products. When comparing our servers with others, you will find that a lot will have US pricing, even if they offer datacenters around the world. If you were to compare our server to theirs and ours was 30% more expensive at a quick glance (because the conversion rate wasn't factored in), we would be seen as not competitive.

in short, because majority of our business is done in USD and to provide ease in competitive pricing, the USD currency is most efficient for everybody to use.
