@Bill-Kindle Are you talking about the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file? They deleted it? By default, I believe it's set to read-only for normal users. So unless you explicitly open it as admin to edit it you can't. So I suppose a rogue app (or just a poorly written one) could change it if running as administrator. I have seen that, but I don't remember what "legit" app it was. If I recall correctly, it was just the programmer being lazy.

WOW! It's probably people like this that prompted Microsoft to add the "feature" of single-click to open. Working on computers that have that enabled drives me batty.

No Swipe wasn't my reason, screen size was and still is. I also prefer SwiftKey which allow swipe and claims to be the smartest keyboard yet! (I agree)
I too use SwiftKey as my primary keyboard on my Nexus 4. 80% of the time I'm swiping on it as it's much easier for me to do one handed. I'm glad that Apple is allowing 3rd party keyboards through their walled garden though. That's progress.

RE: Recent Posts on Main Page
I know I'm new here, but here's my $.02 anyway. Yes, it's pretty hard to read and the most recent replies don't mean much without knowing the topic anyway. I'd rather see just a list of categories (maybe containing a list of the most recent posts in it). The two things I look for are, first, new replies to posts I've already seen and then new posts.

Great tools! I'm already registered. Back in 2007, the MSP I worked for had a premium account. Used it a LOT.

Just got another Daily Digest and it still has port numbers in the URLs (4567). And those URLs don't work.

@scottalanmiller could not agree more.
Seems that everyone is using the term VDI for any desktop (regardless of user or server desktop) which is accessed through the cloud.
VDI is rather expensive, XenApp/RDS will work for most things as you have well said a million times.
Or you cheat and use Windows server (datacenter license) instead of the desktop license.
But then it's not a desktop;). VDI is a Windows license situation more than it is a technology. Do it with Windows server and you are doing single user remote servers.
Are those 2 things mutually exclusive? That's what we do with Parallels Virtual Automation for our VDI solution.

RE: Considering the new plans AT&T and Verizon - will you consider buying a non branded phone?
@RAM. said:
Don't do the NEXT plan from ATT, its a crock and a scam honestly. You get the 18 month plan for the phone and not a 2 year contract, just the phone itself. During those 18 months you're leasing the phone, IE you pay (according to the salesmen) $40 less than if you do the 2 year contract. $40 sounds awesome now doesn't it? But this is where they don't tell you the following, after the 18 month is up, you can choose to continue to lease your phone for the next 6 months, IE 24 months, and by the end of the 24 months you'll own the phone. Meaning you PAY MORE for the phone.
Whats the catch? What if you're content with upgrading? The phone has to be in "resellable" condition, or you are stuck paying it off over 6 months. And why must it be resellable? Because you return it to them, and get your new phone and no monetary gain. Which lets be honest... odds are you'd want to sell it on Ebay after you were done with it and make a nice $50-$200 profit. Not sure where that guy said I'd be saving $40 comes from.
NEXT is a scam, and they need to clarify what they are saying before trying to sell it to people.
Whoa! Didn't know this! That's brutal. Good thing I've already told people Next is a ripoff (that was before I saw these reasons).

"Earlier this week, Ways and Means Republicans said as many as six IRS employees involved in the scandal also lost email in computer crashes, including the former chief of staff for the acting IRS commissioner."
Convenient... They sure have a lot of "computer crashes".

How dare you question him! He's been in IT...like...forever... Plus, he's an "IT Director". I really just hope his communication skills suck and not that he is actually like how he portrays himself.
Hard for it to be just communications skills. Arguing that the Internet was invented in 1998, many years after normal people were using it and decades after products we use were built for it is just crazy.
Yeah...you're right...there is no hope. Reading through his IPv6 thread now. WOW!
