    • RE: User migration to azure

      @lilyleiden I spent weeks researching this a couple years back and I agree MS totally neglects that migrating PPLs desktop is a thing.

      Simple is best and we did research ways to just copy over what was needed but that’s not as simple as it seems.
      For instance lots of things should NOT be moved over

      The solution we ended up using at my previous job, was USMTGUI from EhlerTech

      Basically:

      1. Join the PC to Azure, using the user account supposed to use the PC afterwards, thereby making the user, at least temporarily, local admin, which is needed.
      2. Then start USMTGUI from a thumbdrive, select the old user profile and press “Run”.

      @annalynnetech

      You need a user migration tool and I’d definitely go with EhlerTecs “User Profile Central” management console.

      With it your supporters can simply pick up the users entire profile from their PC over LAN (Local Area Network) and place it on the users new PC, prior to the user picking it up.
      – The time spent for the supporter is virtually just minutes.

      And there will be very little to do when the user arrives to pick up their PC, as Desktop, background, Shortcuts, browser favorites etc. is already in place.

      We used USMTGUI, a local migration tool also from Ehlertech, for years but now mainly use User Profile Central.

    • RE: User Profile migration Problem AAD -> AD

      @scottalanmiller

      Might not
      But to have ~2000 servers and 16000 PCs with thousands of automation settings, GPOs etc. is not moving out just like that.

      Also the cost for putting just the servers in the cloud would outrun the entire IT departments salary.

      I always advise customers to go easy on cloud and see where it goes.
      It's a one way street in many ways and I foresee that when "everything is out there" all our collected balls are pinned to the wall..

      I find the negligence from MS regarding our work astonishing.
      The amount of time I spend on stuff like this is just... I cannot fathom that MS has not bothered to build in some general function to lift over profiles either way.

    • User Profile migration Problem AAD -> AD

      Customer pulling in smaller firm running Windows clean Azure.

      I am to get those users off their Azure and onto the On-prem domain and have been given the task to move not only their data but also their current user account experience.

      Going through everything I could find over the weekend I get to the point where I conclude that there is no way to do this.

      -There doesn't even seem to be a way to link a local or domain profile to an Azure account?

      Has anyone of you done this?
