So we are leaving..............
-
To be honest i'm not too worried about this, as there will always be IT jobs, even McDonalds
I wanted to stay in as there were no facts on what would happen if we left, like funding for framers and the NHS etc.
But we will see, i'm sure we will be fine but it's going to take some work.*Mod - Please move to Water Closet

Do you not follow the news jk! The UK has just voted to leave the EU and go it alone!
-
I'm not worried. This is a good thing. We need to be strong though to the rest of the world - Cameron resigning makes us look weak. It also adds political worries to economic worries which exacerbates the financial issue we are seeing. He should not have resigned and should have said something strong and confident about the UK economy instead.

Ah sorry, thought you lost your job or something. Well, let's see what the rest of the EU is loosing from a culinary point of view:
- French fries with vinegar
- Black Pudding
- Cullen Skink
- Rumbledethumps
- Stargazy Pie
- Sussex Pond Pudding
- Last, but not least:

The British just placed their economy firmly in the toilet and flushed. That's all.
And triggered the likely breakup of the UK.

I hate to tell you this, but the referendum outcome is what made the UK look weak. After the threats about blocking EU membership to keep Scotland in, this referendum was unethical and very, very weak. Cameron stepping down has zero impact on the world perception, IMHO. Blocking Scotland and then forcing them out using a populace vote makes England look like the sad bully picking only on the little kids and crying to teacher when he gets caught. The UK looks weak today, but not because of Cameron stepping down.
From the US perspective, the UK's vote makes it look like Trump is your leader, not Cameron, anyway. It really is a victory for Trump here, as the US sees it. That may or may not be true, but to the left side of the pond, the weakness is the UK falling prey to the world's dumbest political wanna be and one that is obviously out to hurt the UK for predatory reasons.

Not shocked at all, I've predicted this since the referendum was called. From the US side, it looks firmly like the UK was looking to Trump and following the US election and using that propaganda at home. Trump certainly can be president and I honestly think is likely to be.
-
I don't worry about the breakup for several reasons. One is that this has every potential to strengthen the EU (or break it up, but it has potential for both.) Second is that this makes the UK dirt cheap for the rest of us. I'll call it "predatory travel." So, as I also predicted, you'll see me in the UK in a few weeks. This is an historic time to travel in the UK while it has fallen to the status of a Macedonia or Albania.
But the great things likely to come out are the Scotland and Gibraltar, and very possibly Northern Ireland, will leave the UK. I see this as far less a vote for leaving the EU as a vote for dissolving the UK. The UK is over and the remaining parts will likely rejoin the EU anyway.
So is it even a "leave" vote or just a "step back while we fall apart and rejoin soon" vote?
-
And don't get me wrong, I don't think that the UK is "better together" but I also don't feel that the US is "better together." I'm a pro-Texas independence thinker and also feel that the west and east coasts should not be a unified nation but rather a group of loosely affiliated regions more like the EU than the current US. Too much difference between the regions ideologically.

I've not really followed the issue to know which side has more benefit - Member or non-Member of the EU. So I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. I suppose time will tell...

Depends, it doesn't make sense to leave from an economic standpoint. It doesn't really make sense to leave from a social standpoint. One of the biggest arguments was that the EU was forcing the UK to open its borders to refugees and immigrants, leaving the EU allowed the UK to better protect itself from those forces.
I'm not convinced by those arguments though, with the UK economy going into a land slide, the pound is valued at its lowest in 31 years, they are going to have trouble affording border protection... not to mention maintaining some social services.

The market is having an initial shock due to UK actually leaving. In the long run we will do better than fine.
No way in hell will the Middle East want to see the UK economy (and property) crash, as they would lose hundreds of billions. No way will German car manufacturers want to lose the 20%-30% sales from the UK, the French car manufacturers too. Supermarkets such as ALDI and LIDL are heavily invested in the UK and would want to keep that income coming in. Others too.
Large companies will force the EU to keep trade with the UK, as without trading with the 5th largest economy the EU will not have the funds to survive and bale out Greece, Italy so on so forth. Without the UK 'footing the bill', they probably wont be able to anyway.
-
Yeah I don't expect a lot to happen from this, besides the fact that now there will be trade tariffs that have to get paid. And these businesses will say, "OKAY" because that tariff is nothing compared to losing the entire market space there.

Haha, but i'm sure you get my point. Lets see how well they are doing when they have to support Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey on top of bailing out Greece whilst trying to manage a messed up Spain and Italy. Germany and France are screwed if they do not keep working with the UK.
Markets are just a bit unstable as they didn't actually expect the leave vote to win. It will come back when places in the EU realise how much they will lose by 'shunning' investment with the UK.
-
My point of view: I'm scared.
Yes, no-one knows what will happen, but to be left without any legal support from Brussels on the important issues? That's scary. No forced adaption of the European Convention for Human Rights? Nothing stopping the tories from selling off the NHS/Privatising it/Charging for its use (as many of the main Leave campaigners have openly said/supported)? And that's ignoring the fact the majority of NHS workers are foreign.
It's the Tories that have devastated our NHS through constant cuts, not the EU. The Tories that are getting rid of the NHS-Training bursaries. The Tories that have slashed funding to ALL the emergency services in recent years, the Tories that have overseen the largest closure of cottage hospitals... And now there is nothing stopping them from continuing along that vein.
Markets are more than a bit unstable...I've lost 30% of my pension overnight. Our currency is at the lowest point in ALL the time I've been alive. A campaign of fear and false facts won over reason in my eyes.
