For the guys:
http://blog.tortugabackpacks.com/conference-packing-list/I'm going to start stamping my info on the back of people's hands. Cool idea.
Until the women get home and their husbands see it.
That was my favorite tip! Very cool.

As far as packing for weather around here in September. https://weatherspark.com/averages/31494/9/Rochester-New-York-United-States
The mention of September weather had me checking out the Bills' schedule.
Ooooh, a game vs. the Jets on that Thursday (the 15th) night.
Hmmm.....

There is a sports bar right around the corner from the hotel

How far is Buffalo? Seeing a Bills' game is on my bucket list.
-
Only about an hour. I think maybe an hour and a half to Bills Stadium (traffic more than anything).

The Bills stadium is one of the best I've been to. It is tiny, and doesn't have a bad seat in the house. You can literally see everything from the top rows without any issues. Tickets are generally fairly inexpensive but they may raise the price for a Jets game.

Yeah that will be some game.
It just seems like a great place to watch a game. Good crowd, tailgating, etc..

I was hoping there would be a race at Watkins Glen International that weekend.
-
I'm originally from Buffalo and I noticed right away that the home opener is that Thursday and only an hour away. Not sure if I can swing it but it would be hard to miss that game being only an hour away.

Not very likely. The F1 isn't there any longer.

Oh yes, should still be quite warm in Upstate NY.

@scottalanmiller Indy is the weekend before I think

This is so why I will not use Amtrak anywhere outside the east coast.
There is a single train available out of Chicago going to Rochester. This was the ONLY choice.
-
Only four days, not bad.

That is overnight trains. so only sort of 4 days.
I can drive in under 10. It will cost more, but at least I have more choice on departure times.
Cost would be 6 (likely 5 in reality) tanks (9 gallons) of gas for $151 assuming $2.80 per gallon.

I've done Rochester to the Chicago city limit in 10 hours straight in the car. It's long, but not horrible.

If Google maps says 9:42, then I will probably come in a bit faster than that.

I did it in a van so there had to be faster ways. And it was winter (not snowy, just winter.)
