Anything under 10 hours and I drive it as a rule. I love to road trip. Usually we do the trip from here in to Austin every year. But this year I will be flying not driving.
Thats a drive... not as much as your cross country a few weeks ago, but still a drive.

I was considering driving, too.

My sister in law just did Houston to NY earlier this week.

So where might I find the best airfare deals to this shindig? All the options I've checked are a bit pricey, but I may just have to suck it up and pay... unless anyone here has some great, hidden, cut rate plane ticket connection.
All options pretty much suck... NY is really expensive to fly in to and out of.
I know someone that just got Rochester to LA for $99 round trip.
from where?

Rochester?
I did see the LA part.. I read it as "I know someone who just got Rochester for $99 round trip" missed the LA to part.

@RojoLoco Southwest: Atlanta to Rochester with a layover at BWI (easy airport) for $286 round trip if you don't mind flying at 6am, 9/13 - 9/18

Nice price! How long is the stop at BWI and would I have to change planes?

BWI is a great spot to have a layover, too. It's not a bad airport to deal with at all. And I love that it has its own Amtrak station inside of the airport.

@RojoLoco Short layovers and you have to change planes. If you travel carry-on, you'll be golden. No worries about lost luggage.

I've never had an issue with lost luggage after changing planes. I've always made sure that I never changed airlines. If I have to change planes, apparently at least staying with the same airline tends to help.

Well that definitely helps, but stuff happens. Weather, staff shortages, equipment shortages - many things can make your luggage miss your plane. The best way to make sure your stuff arrives when you do is to travel carry-on only.

I fly a lot and it has only been like twice. Things have improved a LOT in the computer age.

Yeah, but 3oz of conditioner is barely a 1 day supply. I'd have to have a carry on full of tiny bottles of stuff for my hair alone... or FedEx a box of stuff to myself at the hotel.

Or shave your head. My solution is easier.

You mean you're not going to cut all that hair off just to travel?

Well.... I would have a big, funny looking head. And have you seen my hair? Chicks dig it

I think you can't have anything liquid past a certain amount on a plane (homelan). That may be an issue for you. Otherwise you can just buy shampoo and conditioner while you're at the convention. I'm sure there is a store nearby.
