Tons of microbreweries all over the state. Those are just the big ones. Even down around the corner from the NTG HQ in the country is a new micro that just opened run by one of my classmates.
He isn't ready for tours yet (but I have been there). He is even trying to come up with a microbrew that I can have
That would be pretty awesome.

If you're interested in Cooperstown and alcohol.

The Fly Creek Cider Mill is probably one of my favorite places to go and just hang out. My wife loves it, and the cider is dry but tasty. We're ~30-40 minutes from Cooperstown we go a few times a month on average.

If you want to do Finger Lakes wine, go to Watkins Glen and work your way around the lake. You'll be unable to stand before you get to the top.

I have Quench, the magazine of the Cooperstown Beverage Trail, sitting right here beside me, in fact!!

Always hire a driver. Limos are popular for the trails.

I'll be about that same distance from Cooperstown for about half of the summer. We drive through it regularly from my wife's parents' place.
The Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown is a nice stop for younger kids. Mine loved going there.

Since I can't drink wine, I would be happy to play DD if needed.

I was going to mention the Farmer's Museum as well. One of the best ways to kill an afternoon if you've got nothing else going on. They are doing some pretty cool hops stuff this year too!

They do an awesome maple syrup show at the right time of year, too.

If you're looking for another way to kill an afternoon ~1.5 hours south is the Corning Glass Works Museum. We go a few times a year with different people. They just did a huge expansion, I want to say increasing the Museum area by 1/3?
-
I haven't been in years. It was cool back then.

Good call, that's not "too" far from the conference and is an excellent Western NY museum.

Rochester also has The Strong Museum of Play. Which sounds like it is for kids but they do have some cool exhibits for adults as well.
-
One of my favourite museums in the world is the Genesee Country Museum in Mumford very close to Rochester (20 minutes or so.) Absolutely excellent.

They have one of the more famous video game museums inside there as well.
The Rochester Museum and Science Center is a good one for the kids, too. And their planetarium is one of the finest in the country.

If you're in the Cooperstown area there is a small museum called Hanford Mills, one of those living village museums.
