I thought the printing was through Google's cloud - so why would there be a need for dual WiFi connections?

but how is it setup? That's what I'm trying to find out.

Do you plug the printer in and it magically finds the wifi and wifi password? or does it have to be plugged into the chromebook, which knows how to configure it automatically, etc, etc, etc.

The printer? You set it up on the screen. I've not seen any that needed to be configured from another device.

You add the printer to the wireless from the printer itself. Just use the printer screen.

Anyone here worked with a full on home user Chromebook ecosystem?

I have a user who is looking for a printer for their Chromebook and iPad. They have no other computers in the the home.

They would like something that they will print 2-4 pages per month (so they don't want dried out ink) and can easily connect to the wifi, and then their google accounts.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The little bit of reading about it just seems to say buy one and it works - uh yeah, right.

Yeah, just buy one and it works. there is nothing special needed. Printing is very basic, it's a very simple system.

Also, can the printer be moved from Wifi to Wifi and still work without any additional setup for chromebook printing?

That I'm not sure. Obviously the Chromebook has to be on the same wifi with it.

here is a list of google cloud print capable printers. She's looking for one that is inexpensive and uses toner from what you said. I'd just compare. My current company has a good amount of them.

Why? If it's using Google cloud to print, the location shouldn't matter.

                            LOL, that's way to big.

They are so worried about space they won't even buy a MFP, they want just a basic printer.

How do you figure? How does Google Print get the print jobs to the printer then with the firewall closed?

Because the printer talks directly to google, not the chromebook, through cloud services. See the picture above.

                                          Almost none of them do.

Google's Cloud print works through a local computer that has the printer installed most of the time.

You will not be able to print to a wireless printer that is not already on a wireless network. Almost none of them broadcast their own network until they are ON an existing network. You will not be able to just move a printer around. That is not the design for printers.
