HP unveils versatile gaming line for adult gamers

HP Unveils new product line for adult gamers.
Starting at $900 this is completely reasonable!
-
Price isn't bad. Hardware isn't that incredible, though. 965M is good, but I'd like to see a little more.
-
I would love to see a line of computer a la Xbox/Playstation that you just boot and go for PC gaming.

Not sure what you are trying to describe. You want an XBOX One built into a laptop? Or you want a PC Gaming laptop? I have the later already.

I've had friends who stopped playing PC games because they had to spend large dollars every few years upgrading their gaming machine, typically north of $800.
instead they moved to console gaming because they could typically buy one console and be good for 5 years. Anything that came out for that platform for 5 years just worked.
Of course the advancement is technology kinda makes this stagnant situation not good for PC gamers, because developers are always trying the new tech too, and you need the new hardware to get the new tech, etc.

But, you don't need to do that. That's just something that people make up. You can use PCs just as long or longer than non-PCs. I can't believe anyone thinks that they can make statements like that in this day and age. I have machines as old as the PS2 that still play most games. My laptop that I have now will last for many years. If I was making a real gaming desktop I'd get so much more out of it.
PC gamers just WANT more than consoles can deliver. So they keep spending the money.
BUT if you have this feeling about PC gaming, then you can't play on a console at all because consoles totally fail at this. So having a laptop "like an Xbox" would make this worse, not better.

Had they stuck with PCs and lived with the same loss of relative power over the years, they'd have gotten more for their money. They are giving in to an emotional reaction instead of using logic and looking at the actual numbers.

When have you seen a new PC game that wouldn't run on a good machine from four years ago? Never, most likely. It happens, but VERY rarely. And when it does, it's because you are getting something that the consoles can't run either. The PCs are more powerful than the consoles. So the whole thing just doesn't make sense.
And for the lower cost of the games, the PC more than pays for itself if you have any number of games. PCs really do save a fortune except for one aspect... they allow you to keep upgrading your hardware in a way that consoles do not. If you have no control over your ability to not keep spending money on hardware, they will let you keep buying more. But if you have any self control, they will save you money.

that comment was made to me more than 4 years ago.. so back then, if you asked about a 4 year old machine - I would say plenty of games wouldn't play on what is today an 8 year old machine.
-
I haven't looked at mainstream PC video game titles recently, but they were $40-60/ea back when I was playing them.
The guys I'm talking about don't bother with the $2-10 games on gog/steam or whatever platform we're favoring today.

Sure... but how many games play on an eight year old console? Answer... none. How many play on an eight year old PC? A lot.
So the PC wins, even with that silly eight year comparison. I have a nine year old PC and it can play something like over 1,000 of the games that I own.
And my new laptop plays 100% of the 1,500 games that I have.
An XBOX One can't play my old games. And my XBOX 360 can't play anything from the last few years.

Sure, but there is no reason to spend that kind of money. Wait a LITTLE bit and the console games remain $40 - $80 and the PCs drop to like $10 - $20. SO much cheaper.

They do? So Tombraider on the PC that came out 5 or whatever months ago today only costs $10-20? but was $50 back then? Damn, the market crashes on those things fast!

Then they are just donating money to the industry and their whole rant seems to be about finding ways to blow as much money as possible, not that they couldn't afford the PCs. Basically the PCs weren't making them bleed cash as fast as they wanted, is what it sounds like.
Sure, there are lots of people who have that one or two new games that they wait for and have no self control to wait for the price to come down. If you are like that, worrying about $1,000 every few years is ridiculous. that's a drop in the bucket.
For everyone else, the PC saves you so much money it is mind boggling.

The Tomb Raider reboot? From the XBOX One? Pretty sure I got that for $8 on the PC. No way do I spend $20. Possible that it was $10, but unlikely as I'm not that into Tomb Raider. I definitely got it for a few bucks.
-
And mine has better graphics than the Xbox One can do. And it will keep playing on my next PC and the next one, long after the XBox One is off of the market.

Tomb Raider on Steam - $60

Here is, more or less, what I see. 10% - 30% off at release time. After a few months there is one price drop, normally of 20% or so off of the base. During that window, after the initial release, no sales. This is when they make the big money off of the people with no self control (this is when I don't let me wife even see games.)
Once you are past that window, they reset the prices to like half what they were initially and start with the sales that range from another 10% - 90%. So I get all the AAA titles for $5 - $20 by waiting a little bit. There are exceptions, but not many. And non-AAA titles I often get for under $5.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/391220/This isn't a sale on it. That's not the price that PC gamers pay.

My friends mainly only played mainstream titles, they would be 5-10 games a year. that's $150-600 a year in games, and play the shit out of them.
Of course the main person I'm talking about was unable to maintain his own PC, so his issues were really more around the fact that he had problems with Windows (and hardware - he did always want the latest and greatest) but you take away that want for the latest and greatest when it's just not an option.
yes it was all emotional for him
