Help... Ubuntu 11.10

I was told late yesterday to gather credentials today from a dev that was getting fired. Before I got to work, the dev was fired. Totally locked out of a 11.10 Ubuntu box (CLI only). It only has local authentication. Any way to get into this box?

I found something like this... is this the most effective way?

Use single user mode from GRUB. Or boot directly to a BASH shell.
-
Or if you follow that Ubuntu specific link that you have, do that and select the "root" shell prompt option.

I got the pw changed, but how does one enter single user mode in this install? I don't see it anywhere... These are the only options I have.
