I don't even listen to music on the drive in to work anymore. I've been listening to serial podcasts for a few years now.
at first my mind saw that as cerial podcasts and I wondered how interesting corn flakes must be...
Not as interesting as Captain Crunch more interesting then Fruit Loops.
Noted, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them
-
I listen to music when I really need to focus. It doesn't always help though...

Apparently I had a quote window open when I navigated to a different thread... It carried the quote over.

Yep, it does that, and then everyone is confused for a minute.

I find listening to music with headphones on a bit distracting, so don't generally do it. Some of my staff do and I don't have a problem with it. Whatever people find helps them.
Agreed, I could never work at a hipster tech company on the west coast - everyone with their headphones on, no walls open floor plan.
I do suppose it's one way to make sure employees are working and not screwing around on the interwebs - but then again, phone conversations from the person next to me would drive me insane as well.

LOL - same here. I hate it when I run out of my normal podcasts and have to listen to the radio to fill the void. It's caused me to pick up a few more podcasts to fill in the gaps.
Worst part of that is now I know how much time I spend in the car alone (don't get to listen to them when the wife is with me) - about 8 hours a week, between driving to/from work, to from lunch.

I spend ~40 minutes to an hour in the car a day. When I was driving back and forth to Rochester (~3.5 hours) the radio was killing me. I found a few podcasts I liked and they recommended some more.

Yeah - the Twit network is where I spend most of my time. If I was having to fill voids like 3.5 hours, I'd probably do books on tape/digital media player

I've tried Audible and other books-on-tape stuff. For some reason I can't do it. Much prefer to have a book in front of me that I can read.

I've been using Google Play for a 2 months now.
Though @Dashrender has me hooked on listening to podcasts in the car, though.

I definitely tend to remember the content better when I read with my eyes instead of my ears. So I wouldn't to do learning with books on tape - but casual reading - I don't mind.

Edit: I didn't know it would expand the links into YouTube embeds, sorry for lagging anyone out there.

Anyone else listen to music while they're working?
Definitely.
Does your music choice change depending what you're doing/morning to afternoon?
Well, I'm not a psycho.
My last boss refused to let us have any music in the office as she said it was distracting...the awkward silence was more distracting to me, and I find it easier to concentrate and work more efficiently when I have music personally...and gladly at this job they don't mind!
Your boss is a psycho.
When I'm doing cabling, I prefer old school hip-hop/rap
I also like old school hiphop, and a lot of 90s stuff, such as: Redman, Saigon, Slick Rick, Nas, AZ, 2pac, Big L, and tons of more sadly dead people.
I also listen to a lot of trance and house music as well, mostly just essential mix, I have damn near every episode that's ever been broadcast. Plus also stuff from Sasha and John Digweed, and Underworld.
I also listen to a lot of trip hop, stuff like: Massive Attack, Dreadzone, Morcheeba, Sneaker Pimps, Hooverphonic, as well as chill wave, which isn't really that much different.
I also listen to a lot of non-English hip hop: Ladose, KASTA (Polish rap group), ΠΠ°ΡΡΠ° (Different group of the same name), ΠΠ΅ΡΠΎΡΠ½ΡΠ΅ Π»ΡΠ΄ΠΈ, ΠΠΠ¦Π, L'One, ΠΠ°ΡΡΠ΅Π»Ρ, and tons more.
As well as Arabic pop music, primarily from Lebanon (as I'm familiar with Levantine Arabic), such as Nancy Ajram, which is playing right now.
And tons of 90s music in general (Luscious Jackson, Death in Vegas, Oasis, Queens of the Stone Age, Toad the Wet Sprocket, etc), the 90s was my hayday. I still use winamp on Windows, because every other media player pisses me off to no end. They're either cumbersome or massive, or have some DRM garbage built in.

One of the local college stations here is amazing.... the most truly diverse format I've ever heard.
...and when I just need the sonic density and ridiculous tempo of drum and bass, I listen to http://www.bassdrive.com/
