How many of you have personal websites ?

I am working on one that is more or less of an online resume and I will start using the blog.

I just moved my blog from Wordpress on Dreamhost to Ghost on Digital Ocean. I've still got a fair amount of old content to port, but that is all I currently have up and running. I do plan to put a web-based resume up at some point, just haven't had the time to get around to it yet. Heck I haven't had the time to generate any new blog content for months...

I recommend UpdraftPlus for any easy safe transition.

@IRJ It wasn't all that tough, I already moved to a completely different platform. I chose Ghost because of its stripped down simplistic design, and the uncomplicated ease of use. So far it runs considerably better than the Wordpress site I had up and going over the last year. I'm not sure whether the boost in performance directly correlates to the software, or the move to a better provider. I'm inclined to assume the latter.

I've been wanting to move a WordPress site I run to another host. It runs soooooooo slow on the current host.

I can migrate a WP site in about 30 minutes or less. It's so easy using UpdraftPlus

Digital Ocean is pretty fast compared to other hosts.

I'm debating if I want to try another host, try another host with it running on SSD, or do it myself on something like Digital Ocean.

I've been using ManageWP which has a lot of nice management features and can migrate a site. But I will check out what you mentioned...

Give cloudflare a shot. It will help with speed.

Do you go with WordPress hosting, or do you host it yourself?

I've always wanted to start a blog type site documenting stuff I've done during my job, that I've spent hours trying to find an answer for lol.

Also do reviews of tech, always wanted to present on something like gadget show or BBC click.

Cloudflare only does so much, I moved DaraIT.co.uk off spinning disk to SSD and the performance gains are huge, enormous.

I guess it would be an interesting poll...

Does everyone set up a server instance and install WordPress themselves, or do you just go directly to a host that offer WordPress hosting directly?

I know the 1-click install is generally frowned upon here, but does anyone use it?

Sorry to hijack your thread! 🙂

I used to, now I roll my own installs on proper hosts.

I had a site on a small orange it goes down more Than its up. And numerous other people having the same issue in beginning to think there must be a single host that has issues ASO hasn't found and we are all on it having issues. ASO has 10 employees so it's not that surprising.

I've done both. Setting up wordpress on your own server is easy, but not always necessary. It depends on how much traffic you think you're site is going to get.

My site doesn't get a lot, but it irritates me when it just sits there. 🙂
