Windows 10 in the business world
-
I did a fresh install of Windows 10 today.
It installs with all sorts of garbage. XBOX buttons, Store Ads, etc..
Is there a way to get rid of all that stuff for doing individual installs?

There is also a different Windows 10 release that removes all that stuff including the store. Windows 10 LTS Branch. I think is what it is called.

Group Policy..

@coliver Windows 10 LTS requires enterprise and maybe SA too.

Boy, I would hope you don't have to go to LTS to have all that removed - that means you don't get Redstone by default.

If that update doesn't involve everyone getting Minecraft for Windows free then I don't want to live in this world anymore.

That's useful but would be nice if they put a "this is everything" script as well there. Save me copy pasting 50 times

FYI, I tried running all those commands.. and it completely hosed a Win10 install on me.
You have been warned.

Reallllllllllllllllllllly.

Define hosed?

Yep, upon reboot the system was nearly unusable... so I trashed it and stared over.. but decided I didn't care about removing these things.
As Scott has said.. what do we IT people care what employees do - it's HR's and their managers job to make sure they are doing their work.
Granted. I don't personally like to see this crap there, so do what you will.

Specifically the XBOX and Minecraft and all that stuff.
Plus all the news blurbs and stuff.
What a mess.
So, you just leave it there?

in reality no - because my users can't even click through the setup on Outlook - which for them is launch outlook, click next, next, next finish - so since I'm doing that for them.. I generally spend around 5 mins and clean out the start menu too.

Is minecraft actually free for Windows 10 users now?

No. they just include a shortcut to it so you can buy it. I think there might be a 30 day trial. Same goes for Xbox.. the Xbox app is free, but the games aren't

Hopefully not as they've been charging the rest of us for it.

The point of the comment about free minecraft was a play on the word redstone being used for the development name of the current beta. For anyone who actively plays and build things, you know how important redstone is.

Admittedly, I've never played much. I've played the PE version just to piddle and see what all the fuss was about. It's kinda cool, but not up my alley, I don't think.
