any free VoIP internal mobile app?

That may be,. but I wonder if it is more of what the OP is seeking.
There is no technology that would limit you to simplex audio when using IP.

I don't think you can run Lin phone or Zoiper without a PBX connection. however - I could very well be incorrect.
You can, but why would you skip the PBX?

For this, I would simply spin up an on site PBX with no external SIP trunks and as many extensions as needed.
Then use your personal choice of SIP clients on the devices. I like ZoIPer

@JaredBusch exactly my thinking. An internal use PBX is trivial. No security concerns beyond the basics, super easy and none of that "the world is on fire" panic when it goes down.
And you can leverage it into being your main PBX someday if you want.

Walkie talkies on phones is the weirdest thing ever. All the problems of a phone, plus new ones with one way audio.
F'n hate walkie-talkie funcitons.
My wife loves them... ensures no one can talk over her - and if they do, they miss out on what she is saying and she won't repeat herself.

And if you make the PBX publically available, users could talk to people inside the office while they are outside of the office.

So she likes it because it causes her to talk to herself?

I'm an impatient talker - one of my bad habits - she's not done with her sentence and I'm talking over her.. drives her crazy..
I've considered telling her that we should stop communicating orally because she won't be frustrated by my influx of conversation while she's trying to get her though out. but I'm not crazy enough to actually suggest it.

That's how my wife is. She starts talking before other people are done. And almost always about a different topic.

oh man.. that would be worse than me! At least I'm normally on the same topic
-
It happens because she is often ignoring me and the sound of my voice made her realize that she wanted to tell me something.

lol - thanks, I needed that - I'm sitting on a phone call with my telephoney vendor as my SIP trunks are currently broken.
Users are screaming.

Switch your system to walkie talkie mode and you can just talk over them and the screaming magically stops.

@gjacobse I have tried Zoiper.. it needs a PBX.. but i guess there's a VM for it

oh, and it's 4 days later and my SIP problems are still there.

Weird, what are they saying about it?

Weird, what are they saying about it?
my Mitel vendor has kicked the logs over to Mitel direct (I doubt they can even read the logs themselves), and my SIP Provider has told me that there are no errors in the logs on their end.
There were errors nearly three weeks ago - the SIP gateway (for lack of the correct term) was setup as 10 half duplex on the outside interface, which they have changed to 100 full. But the problems continue.

Who makes the SIP termination device? And what does it turn the SIP into?
