So I have my Backup Target Hypervisor setup, and am trying to figure out what is the best approach for this system. At this time this system is purely a test unit.

So as the question goes, LVM or not?

My rule of thumb is... always LVM. No reason to skip it.

If anyone is curious, I am using all of the available space on this HyperVisor's MDADM RAID 10 for this VM one way or another.

So I don't really think I need LVM.

But any input would be cool.

The goal of LVM is to "protect against the unknown." Sure it seems like you don't need it today, but when things change then you are like "doh!"

And remember, even if there is "no reason to have it" you always have to answer "is there a reason to skip it?"

But does it really make sense? The entire array is provided to this one VM on this one Hypervisor for this sole purpose.

Let's do the pros and cons game.

Pros: It's more flexible and helps to protect against the unknown.
                  Cons: Are there any?

Reverse the question and answer it, I think that that helps here:

Does it make sense to skip LVM just because you don't foresee the need?

Well LVM is just logical... I mean it is in the name.....

                      LVM it is...
