I was setting up this old SuperMicro box as a new Hyper-V server just because and left it for a while.

I come back to my desk and notice that something is consistently eating about 1mb over the VPN tunnel between the colo and my house.

I had left nothing connected except the GUI to the router.

I shut down the new server (which is under my desk) and the bandwidth drops.

Turn it back on and the bandwidth comes back.

I sign back into the machine that I had used to setup the single VM on this test box and nothing is open except Hyper-V manager. I close it and the bandwidth drops.

Here is the ERL prior to clicking on Hyper-V Manager

Here is the ERL after clicking on Hyper-V Manager. Not opening anything. Just clicking on the server to select it.

        Crazy..
All I have to do is select a different server to cause the bandwidth to drop off

Run "netstat -ano" and find what connections are going out, what the system is listening on, and what destinations are coming in.

If you want deeper info, Wireshark that shit.

Don't really care what Hyper-V Manager is doing. Just find it odd that it takes a consistent 1mbps just to select a server.

I would have never noticed it normally, because the servers are usually on the same LAN as the device I use for Hyper-V Manager

That doesn't really surprise me that it's a bandwidth hog like that...
