Tips for Using ScreenConnect with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Linux

  • The first thing that you will probably notice is that the default screen effects and animations that Ubuntu enables out of the box are pretty heavy handed and use a lot of processing power and network bandwidth. We should disable those:

    sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

Then open up the CCSM tool:

And then go into Effects and turn everything off. Those are not going to be fun over the SC connection:

Now to address the locking issues as Ubuntu loves to lock your screen while you are doing tasks, the time is so short by default.

Go into Settings -> Brightness & Lock

Either disable locking or make the time something sensible:

And don't turn off the monitor, that just wastes time and network bandwidth:

  • You mean you don't have wobbly windows and all of the fading turned on?
