What do you use for offsite locations and VPN use?

Sorry guys, I wasnt very clear with my question.
I am looking for a mobile device not a means of VPN connection. I think I finally settled on a Surface Pro 2. Does anyone own one?
P.S. Pertino is awesome
Hmm, I misread that post! Though I am interested in your thoughts on the Pro 2 once you buy it. @Minion-Queen recently purchased one I believe. I am in the market for a new device for my wife. Still debating a Pro2 or iPad Air.
The reviews I have been reading have all been good. I will let you know because I will probably pull the trigger early this week.
An iPad wont work for me. I want to have a full laptop replacement

Why are you going for that over a traditional ultrabook? I'm still trying to work out which is best.

Yes. Right now I am using a Dell XT2 which I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and put in a SSD. It works out ok, but its just a dated PC. I use it in tablet mode most of the time So I assume that the MS Surface Pro 2 would work even nicer as a tablet.

For my wife, it really does not matter. She has not used her laptop more than 3 times in 2 years now. Those times were to edit Word documents. With the new Office apps on iPad or a Surface Pro, that will be a non issue.

@Minion-Queen has a Surface Pro 2 and likes it a lot. She stopped by yesterday and I got to try it out. It was pretty nice.

Did she get the 4GB or 8GB RAM version? I am wondering if the extra $300 is justified.

4GB and I can't imagine needing 8GB on a tablet.

I use a virtual desktop for my primary workstation. I can access it from nearly any device. In a sense, it gives me Windows on my iPad. With application compatibility problems out the window, it comes down to non-work functions, form factor, and weight.

This tablet has enough power under the hood to be a laptop replacement. Many reviewers used it for Photoshop or casual PC gaming on a daily basis.

I could use VNC on my android tablet and essentially do everything I need to do except its not really comfortable for doing any extensive work.

What do you envision yourself doing with this computer?

I just started using Amazon Workspaces for my Pertino demos. It is an awesome VDI solution so far. I think it's $35/month (we could probably do it internally for $20/month), but the machine is super quick and doesn't require much in terms of maintenance. My VirtualBox crashed every few days and sucked my 4GB ram dry.

I bought a Surface Pro 256GB bundle and Power cover Keyboard which totaled out to be $950 or so.
The main complaint about the original Surface Pro is battery life. The processor in the SP2 increased battery life by quite a bit. The other differences are minor for me. SP2 has improved graphics for photoshop, games, and other editing programs
Microsoft claims that the Battery cover gives the Orginal SP about a 60-70% battery boost. Many reviewers claim this to be dead on. The SP2 recieves a 33% boost with the Battery cover.

Here is a good review on the Power Cover. I found another really good one, but I cant find it now
