MangoCon 2016 NYS

500 would be about the size of the first year that SW was at the Austin Convention Center, 2013. I'm not sure we even want it that size let alone have the ability to get it there. Without the huge "newbie culture" thing of people looking to attend the conference just to see what the product is about I don't see it easily getting there for a long time.
My guess is shooting for 50 to start and a long term target of more like 350 people seems more realistic.

Vendors are actually going to help with this and send invites themselves due to the deep dive trainings that they will be offering. So an organic way for them to get some of their customers in
Okay, that makes sense. So part ML Social Conference and part "little vendor conference" for the individual vendors? Will take some special organizing around that but I see how that could be an interesting take on it.
-
Might get some more ML'ers out of it too.
-
The more people that attend etc. the cheaper this gets over all. And vendors willing to teach deep dives on their products and inviting their own customers is a great way to support them. And it grows our reach

It does, it can be very good and it can be very bad. We'll need to manage it carefully. I'll post another thread specifically about addressing that issue as it is a topic on its own.

There's such a big difference between planning for 50 and 250, that I'm not sure it's reasonable to do for our first time trying this. It seems like it might be a better idea to pick a maximum number of people for the first conference (on the lower side like 100 max) and limit attendance to that number. The choice of venues is drastically different for 100 vs. 250 people.
-
Yeah that was my though as well @Dominica . Trying to plan for 100 people, and the location is relatively simple, when you compare it to trying to plan for 250 or 500.
From just floor space, to auditoriums to restrooms, all need to be considered for the goal of MangoCon
-
Vendors aren't willing to take part for under 100 (the ones we want to spend $$)
-
So go big or go home.
Fun

250 will be 200+ random ppl and if you're exceptionally lucky maybe 20-40 from ML?
Not saying it's a bad thing, in fact I personally am pretty stoked. Might want to change the focus though, IT learning conf brought to you by the fine people at MangoLassi? That kinda flavour text.

That's what I was thinking.

I think the focus probably realistically needs to be (but not this wording) the IT tech conference for SMB IT Generalists.

So Scott : The IT Tech Conference for the IT Guys who do amazing things on shoestring budgets

@scottalanmiller Hello IT Staff Member!! Do you find yourself working alone on the weekends? Are you the only member of your department? Would you like to attend a conference to learn junk about stuff and sympathize / complain and relate to other people as over worked as you? MangoCon 2016 - where "if it plugs in or takes batteries makes it your responsibility" is something we all can relate to.
-
Yah! I'll only have to drive a couple of hours to get there.

This made me snort.

Hmm.. If it's in Sorrycuse, Buffalossippi, or the areas around there I might even be able to fly myself there.. and some others if they aren't too far from me..
-
I second Syracuse. I have family in Utica and flying into Syracuse is easy and inexpensive.

Same here, but if we were going to do that, I'd vote for Utica. Easy town to get around, lower cost. Hotel Utica is a great spot and might have facilities. Flights to Syracuse or Albany work. Utica College does conference stuff. Amtrak has great service to there.
