@scottalanmiller Thank you. I've been an IT professional, or in IT leadership (but still hands-on) since the 90's. I took on a role a few months ago with a organization that's been patched all to heck and back, and I've been fighting crisis after crisis to try to make them fundamentally sound. I'm primarily a Windows/AD/Networking guy, and Scott brought me here as a resource for my latest crisis, XenServer.
I'm Dallas based, a husband and father, and I have a passion for worldwide travel. If you're looking to find a deal to get somewhere, I'm a good resource to have in your pocket.

@CitrixNewbJD Welcome! Honeymoon to Japan is in the works

Oh, you are in Dallas? I'm in Houston with family at the moment, but am technically based out of Dallas, at least part of the year (normally just a month or two a year.)
Lots of Dallas area people here. We have a regular meet up group there as well. I'll be in Dallas later this week.

@dominica and I are full time world travelers. Based in Dallas more than anywhere else in the US (own a home there) we've been living outside of the US for the last two years. Have been to 31 countries while living out of Spain, Panama, Nicaragua, Greece (Crete) and Romania. We leave for a week's vacation in Rome in 19 days and from there going to our new home in Noto, Siciliy.

Wow, what was the length of time for all of that?
We will be in Italy, but very far away from you while there. Rome until Jan 22nd, then Sicily. Planning to ferry to Malta and Tunisia while there.

The first trip, DFW-CLT-JFK-AUH DXB-DOH-BKK-HKG-HND-SFO-DFW was the crown jewel of the year. First class on American, Etihad (The Apartments, if you're not familiar with it, google it and watch the YouTube video), Qatar Air, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines. 202k AA miles, and $170. About a day each in Dubai, Qatar, Hong Kong and San Fran. 3 days in Bangkok.

That's a very fast trip How old are the kids? Do you do tons of travel for work?

@CitrixNewbJD last year we road tripped from our home in central Transylvania to Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo (celebrated my baby's fifth birthday there), Macendonia (was there for the revolution and was there the night that the government fell) then back through Serbia and across Romania.
-
We are hoping to buy a flat in the former USSR this year.

That trip was 10 days total, if I recall. The one day visits were 20-23 hour stopovers, but the trip was as much about the F products as it was about the locations.
My daughter is 6. She didn't go on that one with me. She did London last year for Christmas, and Paris this year for Thanksgiving. Otherwise, her travel is domestic. Her #1 bucket list item is Beijing for the Great Wall.
-
Are you making most of those trips alone? just you and the wife? the whole family?

My kids can't wait for China, too. They are 5 and 8 (just turned) and have been to 29 countries each (30th will be in January) and they really want to go to China but we are saving that till they are old enough to remember and our friend who will be our tour guide's baby is old enough to go as they just had a baby from their last trip to China.
