Exactly, tiers and being a trial aren't the same. To take it to the next logical level, is the Chevy Camaro just a trial version of the Camaro SS?

But it is not a trial. No part of it is trialed. It IS stand alone and fully featured.
If it was standalone they would not offer the other tiers, That's what I was say is to be ware of the free products that's aren't offered to to get people to buy the full product.

I don't understand what you are saying. It's completely free, no strings. If they charged for it, would you still call it a trial? Is it the fact that it is free that you don't like? Why do you dislike the free version and call it a trial but don't dislike the limited paid versions and not call them a trial?

Are you saying that "stand alone" is on premises? Not sure what you meant by that term. I thought that you meant that it was fully functional and you needed to pay for nothing else to make it work. Which is the case. It is a full working version of the product that is free.

Where did that even come from?

You said that it was not fully "stand alone." I'm trying to figure out what you mean by that term that makes you think that it is not. It works completely as is, nothing else needed. It's stand alone and fully functional.

It's not a stand alone fully feature free version that they only offer as free.
Here is where it came from.

Oh I see how this happened.
I think, in this case, he meant it's being used as a bait.
Install it as a trial (not because it's a trial) it on a few servers for however long, then get sucked into it.
...
Maybe...

He's gone now, so we'll never knowOne can say that about ANY lower end service. Buy a starter house, get sucked into a McMansion. Buy a Chevy, get sucked into a Cadillac. Buy a 32" TV, get sucked into a 56".
Those aren't trials, they are all full products. But there is always something bigger to buy too.

The type of data being collected here is not the kind of data that I would have a lot of concern about. They will have some small knowledge of your infrastructure but very small and they don't have data about you. Because of the way that they collect the data there would be very little opportunity for them to use it in a bad way. Server capacity data of customers that they did not select is not highly useful in any major way.
