I put together a quick FAQ on some of the news and issues around Windows 10:
      https://community.webroot.com/t5/Techie-KB/Everything-you-want-to-know-about-Windows-10-but-are-afraid-to/ta-p/211016

Might be stuff you already know, but you can send it to your less computer-savvy friends and family members 🙂

@Nic Nice. That's sad about the auto report your life to Microsoft settings. They did the right thing with 8, I figured it would have stayed that way.

But if you don't tell Microsoft about every little life detail, and include your SSN, Date of Birth, Blood Type, and your mother's cousin's nephew's sister's former room-mates favorite color, how can Cortana tell you funny jokes?

I just read a report saying that they're taking all the data collection that 10 is doing and adding it into 7 & 8 with an update.

"For any released product with an option to participate in CEIP, you can select to start or stop participating at any time. Most programs make CEIP options available on the Help menu, although for some products, you might have to check settings, options, or preferences menus."

So the only way to opt out is if the developer decides to include the option to turn it off?

They probably are.. an update called Cortana, so I'm not surprised by this at all.

So you guys seem to dislike this in Windows - I take it none of you use Chrome or have a Gmail account or a Facebook account or use Siri, etc....

You've been having all of this information collected for years. Microsoft is just being extremely upfront and in your face about.

They had two options, do the Apple/Google/Facebook way and just do it and not tell you.... then when you find out you're pissed! Or do it the way they are and you whine because they are telling you about it.
