Dell tries to strong arm renewals
-
I asked her if she was really technical in nature, not just a sales person.. she said... Of course I am.. and quickly moved on to "I'll just make a note that you are continuing to use the product, but that you don't want the services renewed." Then quickly hung up on me.
Oh and of course she tried to tell me that without the paid services that the router reverts to 1995 technology - Which may sorta be true, but so what as long as the security portion is still there blocking incoming requests that aren't solicited, etc.

I suppose she'd say Pfsense and Vyatta are 1995 technology.

Even better, she's say that ERL is 1995 tech.

What's funny is it's really an insult to their own stuff more than anything.

Easy solution, dump SonicWall completely. No more calls

Now she's spamming me.
As you have clearly decided to not renew this Security services for the NSA 2400. I did want to leave you with important information to show its value. Should you change your mind later feel free to call renewals to get the reinstatement fee paid first and then re-add services.
Be aware this model NSA 2400 has entered ARM Status.
Active Retirement Mode (ARM) is a statement by SonicWALL that it is no longer actively manufacturing or selling the product.
Products in ARM are removed from all price lists and marketing collateral.
Support contracts for products in this phase will remain on price lists and will continue to be available.
During this time SonicWALL will release a limited number of firmware updates, new features and bug fixes.
The duration of this phase is typically two years beginning one day after the last day to order.
Gartner defines an NGFW as "a wire-speed integrated network platform that performs deep inspection of traffic and blocking of attacks." At minimum, Gartner states an NGFW should provide:
• Non-disruptive in-line bump-in-the-wire configuration
• Standard first-generation firewall capabilities, e.g., network-address translation (NAT), stateful protocol inspection (SPI) and virtual private networking (VPN), etc.
• Integrated signature based IPS engine
• Application awareness, full stack visibility and granular control
• Capability to incorporate information from outside the firewall, e.g., directory-based policy, blacklists, white lists, etc.
• Upgrade path to include future information feeds and security threats
• SSL decryption to enable identifying undesirable encrypted applications

Considering I'm looking to move to a dual ISP setup, I'm probably going to buy a Peplink as suggested by @PSX_Defector

Actually I left it there on purpose. I hate being hassled by sales people, especially those trying to use scare tactics.

It's an Account Manager. Their information is designed to be public. It's advertising. It's up to them to do a good job and make having people know who they are a positive thing.
-
And now they are quoting Gartner. I assume anyone that quotes Gartner has given up on having a viable product. Gartner is a scam.

Sweet.. we were thinking the same thing.

I don't even know what that is.

It's a marketing company that writes white papers on behalf of sponsors. So if MailBear wants their product to be highly regarded, MailBear can't just claim it is the best. So it hires this "marketing research" firm who works very hard not to lie, but will make a report based around the strengths of the product or only research products that pale in comparison. Gartner is super high end marketing where they convince people that Gartner itself is a research firm, rather than a marketing firm, and then get crazy amounts of money for their "research."
So MangoLassi could hire them to review online IT communities for some outrageous sum they would do all kinds of real research, figure out where ML leads (in views from Panama on a Thursday evening when it rains) the market and make a report that stealthily relies on that data to make ML look good. Then they release it publicly and call it a white paper, which it is.
If you see Gartner's name on a white paper or being quoted, run away. It means very high priced people have been employed to mislead you in very, very tricky ways.
