Namecheap just started offering Dedicated Servers starting at just $58.88/Month!

This seem super cheap to me, but I haven't done anything with a Dedicated Servers in a while.

How does this price compare to others in the market?

Seems cheap. But if they don't guarantee the hardware, chances are these are low end desktops.

Unlikely to be a desktop with a Xeon unless it's a workstation class motherboard. Specs are listed for each package. What are you planning on doing with it? I would spend that much per month if it was me. $700/year.

          Intel E3-1220 v3 4 Cores x 3.1 GHz
          8 GB DDR3 RAM
          500 GB HDD
          10 TB Bandwidth
          $58.88/mo

@thecreativeone91 I know someone with a xeon in their gaming rig in an off the shelf mini-ITX motherboard.

Those specs don't inspire confidence in it being anymore than a desktop in a tin shed

Xeon is easy enough to get in a desktop. Especially if they are doing whitebox desktops. I've been in datacenters doing this stuff. Unless a DMIDECODE returns a server board name, you can bet these are consumer boards with Xeon chips on them. If you don't know what the server is, they aren't spending the money to get you something good.

What? Dell PowerEdge R220 with Intel C222 Chipset is a low end desktop?

They might have it in it, but features of the CPU are disabled without proper support from the motherboard. My desktop has 2x Intel Xeons but It's a workstation class, that has a better motherboard than most servers. Advertising a CPU is available but not stated features are disabled on it would be sketchy to me.

Low end server, nothing to brag about. Not horrible though. They are used all the time for extra Domain controllers and such.

Maybe I should buy a dedicated server and start a cloudatcost clone, haha!

I dobut you can run ESXi on them. It says if you manage there's a list of OSes to choose from. If they Manage it's CentOS or CloudLinux only. With windows you might be able to do hyper-v if VT-x is enabled. It doesn't sound like you get access to the BIOS.

I was going to use XenServer or KVM

I can buy those refurbed (which is what you get in a case like this, or just used, actually) for $499. So while the price here is pretty good, it's not good enough for me to want to use. I'd rather own the server and do colocation than to have to pay monthly for a server of this nature.

Per our previous discussion, The colocation alone would cost you more than they are charging for a dedicated server. How is the financially wise?
