Just last night we were driving around one of the worst neighbourhoods in the whole country and remarking as to how safe it felt compared to not "all that dangerous" places, including ones in which we had lived ourselves, back in the US.

eh? He's actually doing the exact correct thing.... the finger is OUT of the trigger well when he's not firing.

He is carrying in front, not over the back, which means he is "ready". he also has the finger right by the trigger. neither of these pieces alone are "passive" or "friendly" they are both aggressive.

Sure, but he's also posing for a picture. That said, I'll agree these people are a bit crazy.. but sadly we need these crazies to help ensure the other side doesn't just take everything from the rest of us.

I disagree. What we actually need is neither of the extremists from either "side" of US politics. Or from any other group for that matter.

How are they ensuring that? If anything, aren't they encouraging the "other side" to have more "ammunition" to take everything from you?
And what are these people even thinking they are protecting you from? From feeling safe in the streets? What do you feel might be taken away?

He has a gun in public putting people at risk. Nothing here is correct.

Freedom will never result from living in fear.

I don't live in fear of those guys carrying guns... unless they come against a clash off people trying to take their guns... but as long as everyone leaves their hands to themselves.... I have NO fear. It amazes me how fearful people are. You're probably more likely to be hit by a car that's passing a police car from a rubber necker as you are to be shot by these people.
I'm not sure what these dip shits are trying to prove carrying around assault weapons, but I'm not fearful of them.

Maybe you don't, but you probably should. And whether or not you do, lots of people are very scared of them. Same with any extremist group, there is always a group that isn't afraid of them and another group that is terrified of them.

I'm not sure what these dip shits are trying to prove carrying around assault weapons, but I'm not fearful of them. They are trying to act tough like they aren't afraid. Why would you have a gun like that if you weren't terrified of everything? People carrying guns scare me because it implies or suggests that the person with the gun is so scared (when it isn't their job to have one) that they don't feel safe like the rest of us do.
That or they are just trying to scare other people.
In either case, I'm very surprised you don't find them scary. Scared and/or belligerent heavily armed people should make you scared.
Remember, the media uses pictures of people in other countries in exactly the same situations to depict foreign terrorists or failed states that we are supposed to be afraid of. Yet when we see the same thing in America from the same militant yet terrified little kids.... we aren't supposed to be afraid? Something is mismatched here.
-
Not only do these people invoke fear at home, but they have made Americans feared around the world. It's every American's identity being sullied by these tactics.
-
I'm not sure how you see them as not dangerous. The US has a recent epidemic of mass shootings from these people. Sure, lots of other things are more dangerous. But I see those more dangerous things every day and they don't hurt me (car accidents, airplanes, swimming pools, etc.) But I personally know people who've been shot by gun nuts and I never, ever see people carrying like this (except in the news.) The only time I hear about them is either some guy literally terrifying an airport and making international news about the lack of common sense and safety in the US, or for an elementary school getting shot up.
Maybe there are good stats that people dressed like this and carrying like that almost never shoot someone. But the rate of seeing this in the real world compared with the rate of seeing mass shootings resulting from it are scarily high.

I think non Americans are more afraid because weapons are so closely controlled, the idea of general citizens having these weapons just makes them afraid.
I can't disagree that someone who goes crazy with a gun/rifles, etc will likely do more damage than someone going on a rampage with a knife.
But much of the actual killing going on in this country with guns is gang on gang. But look at places like London and there are roaming gangs, small cliches of mostly young men are beating, mugging and knifing people constantly. These kids don't fear a single individual in their country... conceal carry definitely has some of the bangers taking a second thought.

I don't feel this is true at all. It could be, but I think that's a really unlikely reason to feel that way.
-
I'm not saying that a good number of those parading around with rifles strapped in open carry aren't mentally unstable - and fine - OK I agree that them running around like this in general is ridiculous, and it's probably likely that those who are mentally unstable will do something crazy...
But you know personally people who are carrying as part of the protests that have gone off on shooting sprees? and if not personally, just specifically?

And yet London is far safer than any major American city, even NYC one of the US' safest. So while concealed carry does make them think twice, it always makes them more armed in general and apparently more likely to fire.
So I think you've just stated one of the biggest arguments against allowing guns - the real world data says that the American rationals don't hold water.
I totally agree with the concepts in the US about why "good guys having guns" can make us safer. But, the facts simply state empirically and very obviously otherwise.

No, I don't know a single person who would openly threaten the safety of the public in this way and hope to never meet one.
-
I didn't believe the whole roaming gangs in London.. until I witnessed a 20's something kid run into a 50+ man and they almost came to blows... only the old man's wife pulling him back kept them from going at it... I've never been to NYC, but Dallas, Orlando, LA, SF - I've NEVER seen anything like this.
-
It's leading to ask if I've ever met a mass murder, that makes it sound like maybe these gun nuts never become mass murders. But I know people who've been SHOT by gun nuts, just not the gun nuts themselves.
