Zoiper: Windows vs. iOS

In setting things up to use my SIP phone account - I have installed Zoiper on my iPhone. I may install it on my iPad also... if I can get it working.
Oddly enough Zoiper for the iOS does not want to register - it shows invalid Password. I've checked and rechecked it.
If finally occurred to me, well is the password really right. To test that theory, I downloaded and installed Zoiper on my desktop. Entered my UserID, Domain and password and it connected just fine. Made a test call and no issues.
Back to the iPhone; deleted the account and recreated it. Nope - same issue. Error 57, bad password.

Thought occurred - use the VOIP IP address.
That worked... now - why doesn't it ring when it is called. sigh not a huge issue at this moment. It connected - all that I was really concerned about.

Registering the same extension on multiple devices is not recommended. You should have one extension per device. You can then setup CID spoofing to all devices show your ext when you call out (to internal numbers) and you setup follow me settings to put your devices in a ring group.

That makes sense. The desk is a one number, the softphone is that number and 1 (xxx1). If I am understanding correctly, if my desk is xxx1, then my iOS device would be xxx2,.. in theory.

That completely depends on whoever setup your extensions in the PBX.
My ext is 103.
My ZoIPer on my iPhone is 203.I do not use it anywhere else.

I use follow me for this. You might should spoof as @JaredBusch said unless you want people calling extensions directly. If you spoof no one will even know anything is going on.
Extension Schemes are determined by the environment though, in many cases the first 1 or two digits for the department and then the next are the person for example all 100's (or maybe just 110's) might be IT. in the case that your a large organization or using the 110's for the department putting all devices in the section might get crowded fast so. You might make say 112 your ring group (the number people would actually dial). And then to save room make 412 your desk phone, 512 your mobile phone etc. It just depends.

Separate extensions is the easiest for everything. For those that have both softphones and deskphones we do a separate extension and then do follow me from one ext to the other. So that they both can ring if you are away from your desk etc.

I had issues with it a year ago and went with zoiper.

In this case it was likely due to registering the same extension twice. The PBX did not know which one to respond to.

I like the older 3cx softphone for windows that supports asterisk better than zoiper. I've had odd issues with zoiper not liking my sound card and wouldn't play sounds through the speakers so it would only ring in the usb headset.

Can you change the main extension number to a call group, give the "Handsets" their own extensions and then add all the "handsets" into the call group?
They would all ring at once though, that might get annoying... what about a hunt group?
Ring handset A --> no answer --> ring handset B --> no answer --> ring handset C --> no answer --> voicemail. -

You can setup ring or hunt, your choice. If you like the feature, but are "normally" at your desk, you can setup a ring all after delay on the main line. so it only rings out after the main ext does not pick up.

Let me restate. You do not want it to just be a ring group. You want your extension to be an extension. You lose features otherwise.
Adding Follow-Me settings basically turns your extension into an extension + ring group.

Currently until I learn a bit more about the PBX, I haven't a clue.. but I'll be starting some of that this next week I believe. Not looking to break it (so to speak) just not be tied to my desk if I don't have to.. and with a softphone - won't be as much.

For the record, I use Zoiper on iOS all the time and love it.
