Well, after a very disappointing experience trying to get DreamHost working, we've decided to test out A Small Orange instead. The account has been set up and attempting to pay for it now. On the third attempt trying to pay. Fingers crossed.

And it is set up, just 25% the cost of DreamHost. Okay, trying ASO out now. Wish us luck....

No crazy three hour hold like DreamHost had. Took under ten minutes from signup to account being active. That was easy.

First site has been configured. ASO uses cPanel and has scripts to automatically set up tons of different applications which is kinda handy when you are not working completely from the command line.

HostMonster as cPanel also - and uses Mojo scripts to install a number of applications.
Glad that ASO has been better than your DH experience.

I forgot, A Small Orange is based in Austin, too. So that is in their favour as well.

Got three sites set up and working already. So far, everything is great and boy is this service inexpensive. Have not had any chance to test performance or anything like that. That will be a little while before we can look into that. But for now, it is working and working well.

Migrated three more sites today. Been about a month now and so far we are loving A Simple Orange. The speed of our sites has increased, in some cases dramatically, and management on ASO has been great. Six sites over there now and slowly more will be migrated. All of our new PHP and MySQL workloads are going there.

What makes you think that? ASO, from all that I can tell, is an independent Austin company.

They actually do on ASO. But the Dreamhost thing is a rumor because of an April fools prank years ago people still believe. With EIG they are just a investment company and would have very little to do with how the small hosting companies they run operate. they still run under there own brands. But, I haven't had an issue with any of the EIG brands I've used either: http://www.endurance.com/our-company/our-brands

Oh, I see, so ASO really is a part of them but DreamHost is not. But HostGator is!

That was an odd joke for them to decide to play.
