Symantec fired their CEO
-
Wow. That's big news for them.
-
And Steve Bennett is no slouch. He started at GE as a protege of Jack Welch, and then was at the helm of Intuit for five years. Either he couldn't get rid of the entrenched problems at the company, or the board undercut him.
-
All of Welch's protégés have a tough time. He's famous for being a worthless mentor.

I was afraid of the Internet because I couldn't type. -Jack Welch (true)
-
Bwahahaha
I've always suspected that he was a lucky idiot and not actually a good leader.
-
So what you are saying in that one phrase is that for minimum wage Jack Welch is not skilled enough to be either my intern nor my secretary. The ultimate example of the Dilbert Principle.
-
@scottalanmiller Add Carly Fiorina to that list.
-
@Nic Time to buy some Symantec stock, since it's cheaper now. My favorite line of that story was
The chairman of Symantec’s board, Daniel Schulman, said in a statement that Bennett’s termination was “not precipitated by any event or impropriety,” but rather the result of an ongoing deliberative process.
My BS to lamen's translation: He pissed off the wrong people.
-
Or he, in general, just wasn't very good.
-
People outside of the business world often forget that it is really the board, not the CEO, running the show.
-
Symantec is going the way of all they acquire.......down the tubes.
