So I am doing some serious research into my family tree and, as I suspect most of you have, I have some odd "family" names that occur over and over again.

Caspar and Barbli are probably the most obvious ones right now. We have lots of normal names going way back like Jacob, Anna, Adam, John and Madeleine. But there are some odd ones too.

Oh yes, Jost is a common one.

And, of course, one went by Indian John because an Indian shot him through the hand, wrist of forearm (they aren't sure) during a raid, leaving him a cripple. His real name was Hannes (alternative spelling of Hans.)

That's a very John Wayne style naming convention. I like it.

But for a misunderstanding over 100 years ago, my lastname would be Blackpool, infinitely more bad-ass haha

I found somewhere a marriage of a Kremer (the milk man) to a Spiller. Seems like a match made in heaven to me.
