Massive Storage Need for Video Project

I don't have access to the router. I just rent the house.

Seriously? Have you tried the default login?

I have actually used ownCloud for file Syncing and such. It really does work really well. The sky is the limit as far as what you can store and all that fun stuff. Syncing your files with a bad upload connection will be the biggest problem, no matter what option you go with...
Also, would something like BackBlaze work? Better warn them up front what you are doing, lol.

Not everyone is into illicit access to other peoples stuff

If he backs up the config and restores it if and when he leaves, what's the problem?

Besides, if someone can't be bothered to change the default router password, I put that on them.

The problem is that he doesn't have the right to do this. Period. Now, if he asks the owner, perhaps they will allow him, otherwise he could be in huge trouble.

Ideally I want to offload the data not store here. The issue with BackBlaze, which I like a lot as a backup service, is that you need to have all of the storage connected all of the time. I can't do that. I have several USB drives to hold the stuff until it is backed up. But they can't all be connected all of the time for BB to upload the data

I have an ownCloud to use, but it doesn't the capacity that I need.

If someone leaves the key to their house IN the front door (on the outside, are you allowed to turn it and enter?

Not sure how or why. As long as it's back to the way it was for the next bloke, but whatever.

Slightly different, but when they call the cops they're going to facepalm for sure...

AJ, there is a difference between morally grey and legal - While sure, most people would probably do exactly what you are saying - but they wouldn't be crazy enough to go and post about it on public board.
This would be like saying - hey I have this Windows Server license that I completely know I can't legally assign to a cloud hosted service, but hey it's not hurting anyone, and as long as I remove it before I get caught who cares - oh wait... you already said that.
It's about having morals.

And this is locked in...... 3.......2.........1.........

Not going to lock it but please stop arguing about stuff like this. You are driving me nuts. @Dashrender is right. End of story

@scottalanmiller As you mentioned a little bit ago... build a SAM-SD and add OwnCloud. 8-)

That would work, of course. But the up front cost would be high and the hosting cost would be high. Minimum of $50 / month just to host it. That's more money in 40 days than Amazon is a year.

Why in the name of soup do you need 4K footage?
Are you going to be colour grading the footage? Or just correcting brightness levels.
RAW footage is expensive to store and is huge, what are you doing where you will genuinely get the benefit of it?
Considering most footage that you see is .h284 compressed at 6-12 meg per second for most consumption on the internet, should you re-consider the 4K RAW idea?

We're doing 50Mb/s finals, so we need even more than that raw for editing. Considering 4K is the FINAL format, doing less than that for editing wouldn't work.

You'd have to ask the editor.
