Pizza Selection...Just NO!
-
So the entire HQ team except support has this entire week off, due to the holiday. The support team has a short week of Monday thru Wednesday, so we get Thursday and Friday off. Well, they are treating us to lunch every day this week. So today was pizza. They ordered Papa Johns, which is alright. It's not Little Caesars, so that is a +1 for them. However, they put a lady in charge who had no business ordering...
They were originally going to order 20 pizzas, which is stupid, and the lady insisted on 27 pizzas. Ok, I'll give her kudos for that. However, it ends there...she ordered 27 pizzas, and only 9 of them were your standard pepperoni and/or sausage. She must have ordered at least 6 or 7 spinach fettacini (no idea how to spell that...I'm not Italian!) pizzas, a chicken Hawaiian pizza or two, a couple plain cheese and some other weird veggie pizzas. I want you to think about your average helpdesk technician...It should have been something like 18 pepperoni and/or sausage, 4 or 5 cheese and a no more than 4 total specialty pizzas. Then they didn't do a particularly good job announcing pizza was here, so by the time guys from my row got there, all the good stuff was gone. The spinach one wasn't bad but it wasn't pepperoni...
I swear...it's ordering pizza! It's not that complicated!

Your company treats you guys to lunch? Wow...
-
I am surprised you guys aren't 24/7. Usually enterprise helpdesks run 365 days a year for 24 hours a day.
-
2.5 decades in IT and any IT position, including Dallas, I would assume "plain cheese" for more than half, not meat for most. IT, in general, is one of the heaviest vegetarian populations of any field and Dallas IT especially.
-
Weird cause I have worked with and been responsible for ordering for LARGE helpdesks before (150 people plus) and there wasn't one non-bacon/pepperoni eater in the bunch. Now there were lots of MEGA food allergy people you know the whole gluten free dairy free can't eat anything without getting sick people too.

We are. But our company is large enough that after normal US hours, it fails over to EMEA or APAC for the US off-hours support. It's not uncommon on my team to get calls from all over the world, as our teams in those parts of the world for my product are worthless...

Yeah, Scott seems to think a lot of IT people are vegetarians. Scott is the only one I know of...

Not often. This is a special week. We do get free donuts every Friday though. They order hundreds of donuts for the building every Friday.

Also, I know this is most definitely NOT true. Most of the IT field is guys...almost every vegetarian I've ever met is a woman...not being sexist, just a realist.

@Minion-Queen True geeks have a diet of bacon and Mt. Dew. Or at least 95% of the time...

It's funny... I can't drink Mt. Dew and I like bacon but not as ravenously as many IT Pros. That being said it appears I am no true geek.
-
But you do eat it. I can't drink Mt. Dew or most other pop either (allergies I am that dreaded all consuming can't eat anything geek). But I eat bacon!

Exactly! I don't drink Mt. Dew like I used to, but I still drink it. And I LOVE bacon, although I don't eat it very often...

@scottalanmiller is just crazy.

I like fake bacon. The meat-free stuff from Morningstar.

I'm not a big fan of meat-free anything... I just haven't seen anything get the texture right... Although when I worked at a school the head of food services made a meat-less dinner for everyone one night... it was interesting and generally the flavors are pretty close, just can't get past the texture.
I would prefer a good ground sausage with my eggs in the morning... but the fiance likes bacon so that's what we eat.

Key word being fake. I thought that's what we gave kids to play with when they were teething...it's made of plastic, right?

Eating it straight, I prefer bacon, IF it's crispy. Like, you put your lips together on it it snaps in half it's so crispy. I prefer sausage for breakfast sandwiches, etc, because it bites easier and I prefer the flavor.
