Wsus maintenance

  • In trying to trim down on disk usage I turned back to my WSUS server which had been using 115 GB for the repository. I have been running the Server Cleanup Wizard (SCW) weekly for the past 4+ years. When it runs it's common for it to remove anywhere from 1 to 6 GB of data. This has keep the WSUS fairly static in it's growth.

But 115 GB still seemed outrageous to me so I opened google and ran into this.

you'll have to search for it now - links not allowed

In this other (link removed), Patrick points out that WSUS does a poor job of marking superseded updates declined, therefore the SCW won't remove them.

Following Patrick's guide I removed 70 GB of superseded updates from my server.

Just thought I'd pass this reminder on to those using WSUS.

Remove the links. Linking to over there is no longer allowed.

  • @ajstringham Where are we not allowed to link to?
(and curses to the flag button... 😞 )

    Spiceworks.

  • All linking must be approved by an admin or myself. Sorry but with issues we have seen as of late we are being extra cautious.
