Hmm.. the power requirements for the Ubiquiti APs is higher than the HP POE switch I have can provide - this is disappointing.

Which model of Unifi APs? I know some have to have a special Unifi PoE switch, but I was thinking some of the newer ones supported 802.3af or 802.3at.

Check this out: http://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-802-3AF-POE-Unit-Indoor/dp/B005VSY0KM. Someone mentions ProCurve in the review area.

Looks like a known shortcoming of the ProCurves. :(

Yep, the UAP and UAP LR can't be powered by normal PoE, the UAP Pro can however.

This is correct. The basic UAP does not support the 802.3af/at PoE standards to be powered by switches that use those standards.

              The UAP Pro supports 802.3af
              The UAP AC supports 802.3at

I would hope that any PoE+ switch would work?

Not for the UAP and UAP-LR.

                    The UAP requires 48V @ .5 amps (24 watts).

POE+ is rated at 25.5 watts per port. See the Wiki here..

The Wiki mentions that POE(+) only supports 2 pairs, not 4 - it's likely that UAP is using more than 2 pair to power it. If that's the case, no POE+ will support them. :(
