Zoho Email Free SMTP Sending Limits
-
Zoho Email's free version does allow sending via SMTP but it has some extreme limits. Fine for testing or as personal email but for a business will be challenging. Here are the unpublished limits as of 12 Nov 2025..
SMTP configuration in free plan and the SMTP limit is pretty conservative. You can send up to 50 emails per day, with a maximum of 10 emails per hour, and no more than 20 recipients per email.
-
@scottalanmiller I guess you can't expect more than that for a free email service.
-
Typically, free-plan email accounts under Zoho Mail are described as being more suited for “basic/personal” usage or small-volume transactional emails — not large-scale mailing. Because of that, some free-plan users report being unable to send emails via SMTP at all.
-
You don't really expect more, I didn't expect it to work at all. But expecting the limits to be published so that you don't have to ask support for something basic like "what am I allowed to do" would be...practical.

@scottalanmiller I see, you wanted transparency.

Yes, we have people who use it (without telling us) and then expect us to troubleshoot why "it worked yesterday and today we can't send emails", we had to spend a lot of our resources and Zoho's to get someone to disclose that the system DOES work sometimes (we thought it never worked) but that there are all these reasonable, but secret, limiters on it.
