User profile migration to new Windows 11 PCs
-
We are in a transition to move to new Windows 11 PC.s I would like to move, not only relevant documents outside Onedrive, but preferably the entire user profiles with them, except redundant stuff like temp files, cached webpage content etc.
Most of their functions will remain the same. And so most relevant documents, used websites etc. will be the same as previously. Moving the desktop over would prevent them from having to start all over, setting up everything all over again.
We do use USMT (User State Migration Tool) as part of our deployment, but the new PCs are pre-deployed at our vendor. Also, even the latest Windows 11 USMT from the ADK does not include favorites etc from any of the latest browsers. Not even Edge.

Amazing how hard previously simple things in Windows have become. Sadly, I have no additional insight, with pre-deployment elsewhere it's extra hard.

Good luck. I didn't know that USMT was even still a thing used... Maybe some places disable / block it.
One Drive maybe? IDK.. If the vendor has the devices, profiles are difficult to move without the initial sign on. Now, I could be wrong on that... Maybe there is a way to do that without compromising the users password... because IT will never ask for your password. And if they do, it was a test,.. ONLY A TEST!...

It always has been. Now it's just obvious to everyone.

Always was, they just used to be able to claim that the alternatives didn't exist, even though they did. Now, the alternatives are too public and people are more aware that Windows isn't on par. But as someone who came from UNIX and discovered Windows later, Windows has never been good enough to justify, never been "good", never been anything but a joke. Just people re starting to wake up to it because MS isn't putting the resources into hiding it anymore.

They aren't using the web browsers sync for all that? All web browser stuff should be synced. I wouldn't be able to function without it, using so many different OSs across many different devices. Favorites / bookmarks / etc shouldn't even need to be considered in migrations these days.
They don't even need to manually sign in to the browser for the sync to work depending on your config.
