Main Monitor Won't Wake Up
-
Simple question but I cannot resolve. As mentioned in another post, during our remodel this week, something fell from the ceiling and killed one of my two monitors. So, I replaced it and all is well. Except for the fact it will not wake up after sleep. The right monitor, which is DVI, wakes up but doesn't contain the login window. The left monitor is HDMI and is my main one and doesn't want to wake up.
I guess the solution would be to switch which one is HDMI and which one is DVI. But was wondering if there is anything else that can be done. Thanks...

HDMI "should" wake it up just fine. I would test with a DVI cable, maybe just hook it to the other one, to see if that works. Maybe the HDMI input has an issue.

I'll give it a shot and report back after it sleeps again. They may have done some damage to my PC, namely the HDMI connector...

Oh yes, that could easily be the case.

HDMI shouldn't have any waking up issues. Check the input on the PC.

If it doesn't work. My guess is something shorted out in your monitor when the ceiling fell (THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!) and damaged some of the video card's circuit. Have you tested it on another computer or port?

While I agree that it shouldn't be a HDMI problem, I bet it is.
I have this exact same problem with Display port connected monitors. In more recent times updating the video driver and/or BIOS(UEFI) has solved the problem, others remain unresolved.
FYI, I'm using Tripplite Displayport to VGA convertors, but have had the same issue with the HP branded ones as well.

THAT'L WAKE IT UP

Updating the video card drivers could do it too. I had recently where none of my external displays, USB graphics cards or VGA/Displayport-to-HDMI, were connecting. I had to reinstall the GPU drivers. Once I did, it worked again. Really weird.

Sorry, was slow to update. I switched which monitor had HDMI and DVI and also updated video drivers. A combo of both seems to have fixed it though I am wondering what would happen if I switched them back...no time to test right now...

At least you got it working.
