I'm going to be adding Windows 8 to my network soon.

I've setup a machine and I'm working on my GPOs only to find that something in my current GPOs kills Windows 8 Metro apps and the whole system just runs like dirt.

I've decided to create a few new OUs and new GPOs. This will allow me to ensure I only have the parts I really need and I can dump my old GPOs with any legacy settings.

I'm finding the process painful at best. I'm having to learn quite a few new things (which of course is great) but the timing could have been better.

Anyone else in a similar boat?

I'm still running full 7 in my home office and have not had to deal with GPO's. I hear that they can be pretty stingy little buggers.

Since when is the timing ever better? IT is trial by fire. You're fixing things before you've even learned them. Sounds like Standard Operating Procedure to me.

Not a fan of the Metro apps, not surprised that a GPO kills them. Out of curiosity, which ones do you use?

@katie which what do I use? which Metro Apps? None - but they all had little x's on them and wouldn't run at all.

I'm trying to impress my boss with Windows 8 and don't want anything disabled incase they want to use it.
If they decide later to disallow people creating and linking MS accounts on their windows 8 machines so they don't download and install non work apps - that's fine, but for now I'm in a trial setup and want it all working.

Finally first victory of the day.

I've been trying to get my GPOs to push out entries to the Trusted sites portion of IE for an hour now. 27 reboots later (minor tweaks to GPOs each time) and I finally licked it!

Good luck - I'm not sure I'm impressed too much. As far as Metro apps go, there's a number of little widgets in there for things like news and weather that constantly update themselves, along with a Reader app. Just wondered if anyone was able to integrate any of them into their productivity routine.
