@pmoncho I don't think it's bricked, but I seem to recall problems when going from the 1 series to 2... IIRC part of the problem might be that the button inside that pinhole for the paperclip reset is a bugger to actually hit and hold... I can't say with 100% certainty whether it was the ER-X or one of my dd-wrt projects that I ended up having to hold the paperclip / pinhole reset for something crazy like 5 minutes for things to play nice.

Thanks. I will try that today. I must have done that reset button 30+ times so far but will give it a try.

It probably is bricked. The same happened to my ER-X when firmware 2 came out. I got it booted eventually over serial cable, and if I remember correctly it displayed something about internal storage.

I noticed others have had the same issue in the past.

I just saw the serial connection setup. Did you just use the USB-TTL device to connect?

The part that bugs me is I had check the storage issue prior to upgrade. Had 58% free so I figured I would be ok.

yeah, that's not much when the firmware is 70 MB compressed.

I definitely know that now. lol If that is what did it. The other reports I read, before I did anything, user mentioned <40%. I decided to give it a shot. Oh well. Bought a cheap D-link at Microcenter yesterday to get us going. Glad I did as we are locked down with snow this morning in NE Ohio.

I'm thinking if you can get a console cable you should be able to recover this device.

There's mention of a tftp recovery option in the link below:

Don't know if it still applies but might be worth trying.

I was looking at similar posts. I think I will look into the USB-TTL device.

Some posts mention 3.3v and other mention +5v - Something tells me it matter but I am dumb in these matters.

wait - what? there's voltage concerns on a USB to terminal connection? Can't say I've ever seen that.

The ER-X doesn't have a console port so you have to open it up, use a USB-TTL to connect to the serial port PINs on the board.

I have a USB cable (not the one you linked) that I use for ER-X recovery. Same process as ERL and such.

The part that bugs me is I had check the storage issue prior to upgrade. Had 58% free so I figured I would be ok.

At some point, Ubiquiti updated the firmware upgrade process of the ER-X to pre-delete the old version. I have no idea what "space" should be available, but I always deleted the backup firmware prior to upgrading until I was on the 2.X line.

This has been a known issue with the ER-X from day 1.

Glad I didn't get this issue when I upgraded to the latest version.

I have now updated my upgrade process. Backup config, confirm download of currently loaded firmware is available, reboot, delete backup firmware, update firmware.

I'm glad you didn't either. This stinks. 🙂 As this is for home, didn't think there was a reason to buy two.

Using other individuals previous experiences, in addition to my own, I have no revamped my upgrade process.

Now that I am on the 2.X line with all devices, I simply click the upgrade button within UNMS (now UISP).

                                          Full Process:

                                          • Log in to UNMS
                                          • Click to reboot router
                                          • Wait for it to come back online
                                          • Click upgrade

                                            Interesting.

What did UI change in 2.X line that makes you trust just upgrading vs the 1.XX line?
