With payment devices they use the file extension .tgz (which is a TAR archive file) I need to be able to view them from time to time. I have notepad++ installed through chocolately and updated to most current version, but when I open the extracted .tgz (or tar.gz) files it looks a lot like this

and I need a way to view / edit these files especially the log files that they are sending me.. does anyone know how I can do this? I've tried the google-fu and it just shows me what I've already been doing.. maybe I'm doing it wrong.

any help would be appreciated. .

I can view all the files from the tgz file after extracting to tar files. but can't actually open or read the files inside of there.. The issue with this is when they send me logs, the logs are also in TGZ files..

        I figured it out -
I have to open the archive in 7zip -after extracting, then use notepad++ to open the file, and it is readable in English to me.

I should add, I'm using Windows 10 - and 7zip to unpack the files.

7zip should be able to decompress the file; thus, leaving you with the tar archive. I think it can expand a tar archive to give you usable files, but I can't remember off the top of my head. If this isn't answered before I get time, I'll test this later today.
