As someone who only purchases this type of gear once in a blue moon what would be my best vendor? Prefer someone online.

You'll get a few different views on this as everyone will have their "preferred" manufacturer of switches.
Like Edgeswitch, Unifi, TP-Link, Netgear etc etcPersonally I've been getting a few TP-Link Jetstream range, they have a central management solution.
But also like Dell for our main infrastructure, only had to phone them maybe 2 times in the last 6 odd years and support and always been quick and polite.I THINK he means the reseller. As much as we all want him to deploy anything but Cisco, it's a customer requirement. Assuming that that was true, it's the VAR, not the vendor, that he meant to ask for (the vendor rep.)

I used TecSoup )IIRC) and got hard / soft ware at a fraction of MSRP.
AFAIK, the two 24 (or 48) port Cisco Smart switch’s are still there and running- fifteen years later. (Hope they have been replaced by now honestly).
