Lame MS Win 10 Annoyances ..
-
I've been trying to get this view changed for weeks,.. and it never works.
Googled it, attempted it,.. and every process has left me with the same view - when opening a file/document from the application - in this case Ulitmaker CURA - which I use for the 3D printer. But doesn't matter what application used.
When I use Explorer it is shown as preferred.
I have no use for 'Sort by Date.' Not saying it isn't useful,.. but I have no need for it. I've reset Explorer, changed it to a difference view, and set as default. And yet,.. it remains in the sort by date.
Isn't the default Explorer view supposed to be used by applications as well?

No, it's not.
It would actually have been a disaster in many cases. For instance normally when you open files from an application, you only see the files with an extension that the program you are using can actually read, like *.txt for example.
It's also usually defaulting to opening from one particular folder. Usually a default location for program files defined in the program.
There are usually very few option to customize the file open dialog from the application.
How it could look inside a typical windows application:
var fileContent = string.Empty; var filePath = string.Empty; using (OpenFileDialog openFileDialog = new OpenFileDialog()) { openFileDialog.InitialDirectory = "c:\\"; openFileDialog.Filter = "txt files (*.txt)|*.txt|All files (*.*)|*.*"; openFileDialog.FilterIndex = 2; openFileDialog.RestoreDirectory = true; if (openFileDialog.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { //Get the path of specified file filePath = openFileDialog.FileName; //Read the contents of the file into a stream var fileStream = openFileDialog.OpenFile(); using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fileStream)) { fileContent = reader.ReadToEnd(); } } } MessageBox.Show(fileContent, "File Content at path: " + filePath, MessageBoxButtons.OK);

So if you want it sorted in a particular way or whatever, you should open the files from the file explorer and not the application itself.

This is the same view from Libre Office - Writer. It is as I want - and have come to expect:
VLC:
So - maybe it is as I have set it, and want. It's just that one program is jacked (IMHO) and likely little I will be able to do with it.
Lame MS,.. Just LAME.

I'm guessing the sort by date is an error that has crept in (like the overlapping printer issue they had for over 3 years).
I've noticed it shorts by date for the last several months or more... in my case it has worked out, but I can see where others wouldn't want it.
